Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Top talent has already left Optum years ago

No offense to the people who are still here, many of them are just amazing, but in aggregate, top talent has already left Optum years ago

I have a top talent of laying giant brown snakes in the toilet on the company clock. Thank you Optum for inspiring me to create toilet masterpieces (more of an abstract artist myself). In that regard, I AM the best at what I do. Thanks for selling us out Kelsey Seybold and I look forward to many more years of below mediocre work and skid marking my way to retirement.

@e6 There is a chance the feds will bust up UHG, for this and other reasons. The Standard Oil of our times.

@d6 Companies like UHG and Meta buy up competition not for the market share but to slow down innovation. Zuck has said it verbatim: it is easier to buy out than compete.

If UHG can continuously buy up the next place after the next that people land at, they can simply slow down all change in the healthcare sector.

This company values money, not talent. It is required to make money for shareholders; not provide job security. Remember that.

Optum acquired our company a number of years ago. We did pretty esoteric work in the payor space. Within less than a year, Optum laid off our team. Now, this was a team with decades of experience, and was nationally well thought of. All that talent - gone. All hard workers - gone.

But karma is a real thing. Now that the non competes and non solicit clauses are over and out, the team - all now at different companies - is just taking back the contracts, one after another, like hungry seagulls. It’s nice to see Optum lose it all. All that money. Gone. All that reputation. Lost.

The layoffs hurt team members “bigly” but we have looked out for each other, all well within the evil employment parameters this demonic company burdened us with. And happy to report that ALL team members have better (more $, less misery, better health, weight loss, etc) jobs and have come out much better than had we stayed in the Borg collective where resistance is futile. Resistance = good work with strong client relationships. Optum never had that and probably never will.

Good luck to all as it’s gonna just get worse.

I see many talented people still here. They choose to scale back effort to be more in line with the 0% raise and 50% RRP. They respond less, they prefer to keep knowledge/ideas to themselves, less volunteers for extra tasks and some do a second job while on the optum clock.

That is how paying less and laying off staff affects culture. Words and surveys do not turn around culture, treatment does.

The few good people left I know, and I like to think I'm decent at my job myself, are just somewhat comfortable in their positions. Not as comfortable as they can be (or should be, work shouldn't be as stressful as it is here), because of the stupidity from our leaders.

But at the same time, looking for work su-ks, I think most people fu--ing HATE doing it. We're not the only company offshoring and laying off like crazy (although it's turned up to 11 here). And the change a new job brings is daunting. You have to learn new procedures, people, etc. and that takes months to settle in.

Rather just work on personal sh-t, but it's getting more difficult every day to justify not looking harder for a way out.

@OP They left UHC as well. They got rid of the top talent as they made the most and were older. Kept the mediocre that made less.

I came here 5 years ago and I just received my 3rd promotion. I've received a 5 every review cycle.

My last day is in 2 weeks :)

They left because they knew their self worth was more than just 1-2% annual raises and pi-s poor bonuses. I bet they’re all striving in their new roles getting compensated fairly.
