Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Trimming the mgmt fat in March might actually be the first sensible move

I don't wish job loss on anyone, but it's always the grunts who get sc--wed. Management has been bloated forever, and some roles won't be missed, AI or not. If those of us doing the actual work, for the least pay, can keep our jobs given how tough the market is, I'm okay with it. People with bigger salaries can weather unemployment longer. Most of us can't survive more than a month or two.

Too many ADs.
If 10+ people are not reporting to you, you are not needed.

This is the second sensible move. The first was closing stores. They need to accelerate the closing of more. The retail side should be gutted.

All these ADs deserve to be on the street. They have been taking for longer than should be tolerated.

Lots of people went to management roles because it is the only realistic path for a promotion, e.g. if you are a DMTS then you have no choice to get promoted besides becoming an AD. This was due to VZ decision in the past few years where they removing lots of technical titles, as well as making fake title change form Mgr to Sr-Mgr then to AD and that is why you see lots of ADs managing 4-5 FTEs, it used to be 20-30 FTEs

Verizon should fix technical titles availability to open the door for promotion path, with that I think quite few AD / Dir would like to go back to be actual contributors to the business rather baby sitting other FTEs.
