Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

APPROACHING—outta here

Received notification that I would be rated approaching after being in the top 10% of my orgs performance. No bad verbiage, no recommendation on what to improve upon—just approaching.

Being told that this label could affect future promotions. 10 year veteran with not a single rating below performing…

It may be time to 🛹…outta here

Is approaching the same as achieving? I was given achieving and have no idea where that ranks on the list. Can someone give me some guidance if I need to be worried about achieving?

@at absolutely true . There is a bell curve of sorts that determines how many employees get which rating . Because the rating is not just you and the job . The rating is you, the job, and how you compare to all your peers doing the job . And hence the foundation of the culture issue currently ransacking the company . Comparison and ranking does not promote teamwork to get things done . It makes everyone out for themselves .

Someone has to be the sacrificial lamb for the group, like mentioned above HR has guidelines regardless if you are deserving or not. Consider yourself taking one for the "team".

OP, I had something similar last year . Literally didn't know where to park it and had to give it to someone it seemed. In this environment I'd challenge it, having that on your record is too risky with these cuts as you go top of the list.

The year end performance review and the ratings (!!!) are totally a made up fraud. Every year is a pre set percentage of how many direct reports can be rated on each level, usually the top performers cannot exceed 5%. VP/AVP/Sr Dir follow this scheme to the T regardless of each of the direct reports' effective performance.

Reply in your review " despite my results i feel targeted". That will document for future use. I share with my team before I left that " hostile work environment and feel target" all but guarantees HR to act.

Absolutely unheard of to have nothing behind that rating. HR makes sure no Employee is ever in this situation. They require documentation. You are either a really unique situation or lying.
