I am contemplating an offer to join CVS as a Software engineer in Buffalo Grove. I just saw this board and it looks like layoffs are constant here. Is this a good environment to work for?

Stay away, no training, no work life balance poor leadership, toxicity etc.
The only pluses are the bonus and work from home
Don't. Just don't.
35 years in IT there and laid off on the last big batch. Honestly it's the best thing they ever did for me!
@f0 AI is a productivity enhancing tool. If the OP gets enough exposure to the right AI tools that has a long term benefit. If the OP is supporting something while others are gaining expertise on those tools then that's not an advantage. Don't count on getting training other than the minimum required to meet regulatory and policy goals. Hiring is often done around some newly defined project and projects can be expected to have a lifetime of about 3 years before the primary stakeholder moves on. Never expect your job to be around for longer than that. Then decide if healthcare is something you really want to be associated with in terms of risk/reward.
@bh , I served on the PWC team for about five years and cannot recommend it in terms of mission clarity, measurable goals, work-life balance, communication and health insurance/paid time off. It paid lower-scale vs other companies, especially annual increases. It does have solid annual bonuses, interesting projects, and work from home jobs available. I would accept a job with that team but continue to interview for a career opportunity elsewhere. Leadership within the PWC team is not trustworthy, so share nothing personal that can be used against you.
Which project...they should have told you something info. Stay away from the Aetna side.
Wherever you go you need to build an emergency fund. While sr. Leadership might be Meh..there are cool people here with 300,000 employees youll have good, bad, ugly.
Did you like the hiring manager?
Pay?
Job?
Take it.
Worst case..your getting paid as you still look.
DO NOT JOIN, it’s a blind leading a blind place. Mental and overall health too.
@OP I agree with the "it’s a reasonable 2-3 year gig" or more. They have invested quite a bit, and offer good training and a lot of current technology, so it could be a great resume builder. My only caution, and its certainly not limited to CVS Health, is the strong push for AI. I've been here 20+ years too.
DO NOT JOIN! BE WARNED! Save your career and mental health!
Anyone know about the PWC team and if it’s any good?
there are a ton of people working in corporate so the layoffs are minuscule. your odds of getting laid off are low
I have been working here 20+ years and was laid off once and then brought back.
@OP , it’s a reasonable 2-3 year gig while you search for a company that will return your loyalty and respect you.
