Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Dell undeniably discriminates based on age

Let's prove it, shall we? For those of you who have seen layoffs in your groups and orgs over the past year+, what percentage of those WFRs would you say were over 40?

I'm just about to turn 60 and I'm probably the oldest person in my group, My plan is to hopefully work another 2 years, then either ask for a package or retire, there should be enough in my pot to allow this regardless of a package

I asked for a package last year when I turned 60. Dell was more than happy to oblige my wishes. I was there 21 years and got the max 6 months pay / 6 months benefits. No complaints or regrets on my end. I miss the coworkers and drama sometimes but retirement is great. If you are in striking distance of retirement ask for a package. They will be happy to show you out the way out with some cash in your pocket.

Problem is that those of us over 40 are resistant to giving up critical thinking in favor of letting AI do our thinking for us. Higher ups at Dell don't like this because they are clueless as to how colossaly bad their AI is. I now spend a significant part of every day fixing problems caused by my teammates blindly following AI recommendations.

@as Over 40 is hardly close to retirement age. And asking for a package is called Voluntary WFR, not forced WFR. Two very different things!

For my group it was roughly 75-80% that were over 40 and that's not counting ppl that tool early retirement. I am literally the only person over 40 left on my team. Thought for sure I was getting the axe this month. Hopefully I'll have better luck next time.

If you thought about this for a second you’d realise that people close to retirement are way more likely to ask for a package when there’s a round of WFR.
