Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

confirmed, lay offs coming feb company wide

senior people leader here...... need to tell some one, makes me sick.... been in meetings over the past few days, because of recent bad financials and more expected bad financials information coming next year, managers are being asked to cut 5% of salary per team. list where being given last week and HR is going to review and give the go ahead for cuts early Feb. 2023. this includes tech support, project managers, sales, escalation management. Every group/team is going to be affected based on what I have heard recently. there is talk of packages but some will get them and others will not get. if you are worried or have had conversations about performance in the last 3 months i would bet you are in that list. I would start looking for a job now to make sure you have something lined up. these cuts are going to be pretty big.

It starts Feb 3. It isn’t a headcount reduction rather a salary reduction. Managers had to update their “Know Your Talent” rosters by Jan 20 in order for timely review of performance updates in Workday. I am already aware of which direct reports I am losing. They will receive 2 month’s severance plus 1 week per service year.

Folks over 45 watch out this is the new norm to fire the folks of AGE

Face it - something is coming and I doubt we will hear a big announcement like they have done with Amazon and Meta. The recession is upon us and reality is kicking in. hopefully teams have managed their budgets closely and impacts will be small but as many have said no one really knows until they get the tap on the shoulder.

The FTE folks are worried and not even hiring contractors so yes they about to cut deep and they always cut just enough to stay under the WARN trigger.

Layoffs are definitely coming. They will be finalized early this month and take effect in February (it could be different for some other groups outside of sales). This is in addition to the layoffs that already happened in Aug/Sept.
I would assume that the future U.S. and global economic outlook is forcing Dell to continue aggressive cost cutting measures. Dell tends to adjust earlier than some other players in the same space to try to stay ahead of profitability and shareholder value.
The manager "span of control" (# of direct reports) is getting too large and Dell is thinning sales teams too much to keep up with increasing quotas and expectations. It is going to be a bumpy ride in 2023.

The folks on here challenging this scenario have not paid attention to the past 3 years. Every 6 months Dell lay's off significant numbers and it is not always the underperforming, quite often it is the exact opposite as they cut the high earning folks and replace them with just out of school fresh faces who make significantly less money. They just did it back in September and will do it again in February. 4th Quarter results mean little, as these decisions are made at the top of the food chain and they all think a robot can do your job for free.

All of these comments that no one believes this person… why would someone just lie about something like this? I think some of what they said is incorrect - Dell always provides severance packages (and others are correct about the WARN act vs severance packages.)

But as for meetings happening this week, aren’t a good majority of folks are out on vacation this week?

Regardless, anyone who thinks layoffs aren’t coming must not be paying attention. Between the quarterly broadcast, a global department meeting and a NA town hall, I repeatedly heard “cost cutting”. And layoffs are happening all over tech.

There’s always “trimming” going on but I’d be shocked if we don’t have significant layoffs in Q1.

Ok Karen lol....why troll such obvious bulls**t just to attempt to make others nervous right before Christmas?

Something that extreme would not already be planned seeing as Q4 isnt even done with. What a dope

Lol. So the 'secret manager' said some will get severance. some wont

WARN act gaurantees severance of 2 months if no notice. point is there are a lot of holes in the original post and so easy to poke through.

For those fools who clearly don't understand the WARN act - read this :

https://california-business-lawyer-corporate-lawyer.com/employees-can-my-employer-pay-me-for-the-60-days-instead-of-sending-me-a-warn-notice/

DELL will provide 60 days severance min. No public WARN needed.

You may hear different % numbers. Why? Senior directors/vp were given $ value not %. This is why high salary average performers may get caught up.

Most orgs getting cuts around 4% some higher some lower.

Again - if you have ever had a coach plan, pip, a poor performer compared to peers, or your just a pain in the a-s- your chances of getting on the list are significantly increased.

False.

This would have triggered a WARN act in December

This is a disgruntled employee or ex laid off. You know what they say about misery.

Mostly true - January cuts will happen; no on knows the date for sure. if you were ever on a coach plan or pip or just caused trouble in general --- OR --- you make a lot of $$ and are an "average performer", your chances of being on the list are significantly higher. Some good people are going to go unfortunately.

Last time I heard about confirmed layoffs from a senior manager was May. Nothing happened. I trust this guy but sometimes plans change. I wouldn’t act on this rumor or any rumor.
