My boss micromanages so badly that I’m torn between begging him to let me do my job or laughing when he confidently (and wrongly) corrects things he has no clue about. He slows everything down and still acts like he’s right. Please tell me this isn’t just me.

Had a manager who would not allow using copy and paste for data because "if the computer makes a mistake, it is my (the manager's) fault" - so, if I had to pull data from a report and enter it into another spreadsheet, had to type it all in. No joke.
@by Not like that will work out long as they play musical chairs with managers so much that you're likely to end up with your old boss again.
@OP Unfortunately there are a lot of bad bosses at Verizon. Nevertheless you should try to find an internal opening with a better boss and barring that an external opening. Easier said than done but staying on with a lousy boss doesn’t usually work out.
@OP My AD would flip/flop between 'directing' and being an 'individual contributor'. It was crazy and our group consisted of mostly ar-e kissers that would jump and respond to immediate 'direction'. Meanwhile ... the AD just did it herself ... and then tried to regroup and get 'the team' to do better. Hint: Be an AD/Manager and develop your team OR demote yourself and contribute individually and be an all star.
I have a story to share. My AD is getting very insecure these days. This person has started excluding our team from the important calls. These are not even leadership calls.. working level calls.
Now this person comes out of these meetings with half baked info and unable to explain the decisions made.. Adding more to complexity, delays and team’s frustration.
You are definitely not the only one experiencing this - noting my coworkers on a related team are complaining of an AD that discusses AT LENGTH subjects regarding platforms they has very very little familiarity with. Hijacks entire calls, drags out very simple issues for days/weeks/months, keeps asking the same questions over and over again even though it has been answered many times, claims others accomplishments as their own, hurls insults, talks over people, interrupts constantly, tries to put various individuals on the defense in an attempt to get them to over-explain themselves…all because this person does not understand. Their demeanor changes when speaking to other ADs and higher ups. From what I understand team members have gone mostly silent, lost their best and brightest support because of this madness. There are people in AD positions they should not be in. If Verizon ever hopes to recover this needs to be addressed and these individuals that serve very little purpose other than creating chaos and calling it something else while the rest of us are d-mbfounded.
Let me guess .. is he an AD? These days ADs are super active to show their worth beyond maintaining Google Sheets.
Alot of that going on coupled with indecisiveness and false sense of direction.
