Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Does anyone really discuss pay with coworkers?

I tried bringing it up and got shot down immediately. That’s frustrating, because if compensation is off-limits, there’s no way to know who’s being underpaid, and I’m guessing it’s more common than people think.

@ya If this is true then why are ISRs in Utah "promoted" to support roles starting at $65k?

If you're new to Dell as ISR 3, the TTC is $116k.
ISR 4 TTC $140k.

Ask your manager if you are on the correct payscale for your role, if they wont give an answer ask HR...

I wouldn't use glassdoor or any other site other than just to see if you're in the ballpark - and even then be generous. Those places are self reported, some people I've talked to included bonuses others don't, plus whatever reason people may have used to input something not right

What’s interesting is how inside really has no idea how field makes so much more than them. It’s like eye ba--s popping out of sockets when they hear the numbers

@c9 The glass door numbers for tse 2 (i6) in Utah appear to be inflated by about 20%. At least compared to my and my teammates's pay.

Too many factors involved... An i6 in say California or NY is going to start with a higher base than one in idk, Kansas or Idahoe. Then you have to consider their raises which may not be equal to yours. Then take into consideration how long they have been there compared to you... Which means the longer someone has been there, the more raises they've gotten.

And that's just for the US...

You could live in Kansas making 90k while a coworker is in NY making 130k. Cost of living has a large play in it

you can get a decent estimate via glassdoor and other sites...

All I know is about 6 months after I was hired folks hired for the same role in the same location started at $10k more that I was getting. Took me 4 years and a promotion to get to where my coworkers started at. Sh-t like this is why Dell doesn't want us to discuss our pay.

Way too many factors. You can't just say "I'm this and you're this" and compare the numbers. Location, title, role, job family, when/where you came in at midpoint, time in grade and even org play into it. Some grade bands can span an $80k difference and they are all justified FMV. I have I9s that have a $40k gap in their salaries and both are accurate for the factors.

It depends on the country, ask some in South Africa and they look like you've just asked their mum for a date. In England people generally share if you ask
