Having to deal with constant reorgs, layoffs, an increasingly toxic culture, shrinking benefits, and all the other nonsense would be easier to swallow if we were at least paid well. Instead, we’re paid less than most of our competitors, which just adds insult to injury. There’s no upside to working here. None.

@mc You are a great example of the toxic culture at Optum. You come on here to threaten coworkers and act as an internet troll.
@c5 I was going to say the same thing! If people hate this company SO much-then leave it. No corporation this big is going to placate to your feelings. It’s corporate work. You play the game? Or find a new job. This may be hard to digest-but many people are waiting for your position cause theirs is a lot worse.
The beauty of America is that you can quit. So???
@aa Many of us are raising families, taking care of others or Divorced with children. It's not about us any more. It becomes about steady work and steady paychecks so we can provide for ourselves and for the people we love. Add to that, it's incredibly difficult to get another job. New jobs have unrealistic expectations where they expect you to know virtually everything, even skills that don't apply logically to the role. They treat applicants like expendable trash. In addition, our current pigeon holed roles at this company do not prepare us to jump elsewhere easily. There are 100s to 1000s of people vying for the same job, ageism and more.
Many are trapped. Others just want to work hard and go home to their families or loved ones and live their life, without the threat of it all crashing down. Most of us were ambitious, but learned long ago that a job was just a means to an end. Optum or UHC won't be at our funeral.
God Bless
person... Other companies, including Meta, Amazon, UnitedHealth, Walmart, JPMorgan Chase, and UPS, which have recently announced layoffs, have framed them more euphemistically in sunny reports to investors about the rise of “automation” and “head count trending down.”
@aa There are many reasons a person has to stay here, your small mind clearly can't understand that.
I've been through too many reorgs and layoffs to count during my 15 year tenure. It's so d-mn stressful. I should have taken heed to the first enterprise-wide pay cut we had in 2011.
The only reason I stayed so long is because I loved my job and most of my team. Benefits aren't ideal. Raises were non existent or a pittance. Sad.
Honestly, I was looking a year ago for a greener pasture, but I stayed. Forced back to the office in October after 10 years remote. I stayed. I adapted to the daily commute and drab office life. No loyalty to the company but to my team.
I was part of the RIF in January -- it was only a matter of time. It su-ks in every way. But I'm finally FREE from the publicly-traded monster and can breathe.
Good luck to all -- former and current colleagues alike! Do what is best for you. A lot of us here will support you no matter what you decide to do.
Could be worse, you could be working for Bondi. She sounds like a joy to work with.
You think it is roster somewhere else? What's keeping you here then?
It’s an hour drive round trip for me to find an in-network doctor in the Twin Cities. I deeply regret switching companies to work here. You essentially have to forego medical and dental care as long as you are employed here.
