Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

Games being played..........

The 2 months admin leave is given as Walgreens did not post a WARN notice. after the admin leave. Shouldn't be allowed.

I don't know why you think this is a game or something new. Every layoff at WAG during my almost 6 years has given admin leave as severance (or a part of it) and WARN only requires it to be reported once a person is no longer an employee - which is when the leave ends. There are, in theory, advantages to being on leave such as keeping your employee benefits and job continuity if you land another role. I absolutely hate how often layoffs are happening, but I'm not sure why everything has to be treated like a conspiracy theory.

People - read the paperwork! If you get a new job prior to your Administrative Leave Date, you just need to call HR at the number they provided and they will move up your last day in their system and still give you your Severance. It's not a big deal!

@OP Such a weird way to think about it. Would you rather they file, you read it here and have to wait 2 months to know if you were impacted or not? Would it have changed anything? This way you get to sit home and find the next job for 2 months while getting paid. Not a bad situation if you're going to be impacted anyway

@bw - This is not rocket science.... let's be real here (anonymously ;) - you can accept and start work at a new job before the end date and still get your severance by simply not disclosing to wags that you started a new job. The only way this would not work out is if the new job is actually at wags.

@bw you can negotiate a start date at the new place that is 62 days out. Get severance and a new job. And thats assuming it doesn't take 2 months to get an offer. Interview processes are long right now.

Also, I'd rather have a new job lined up in 6 weeks then bank a few months pay and stress over what happens then.

I dont get why people are mad they have 2 months notice. If they had filed WARN and let you go immediately would that have been better? Most people aren't routinely checking it.

@bv being told to stay through April or lose your full severance means people have 60 days less to accept a job if they want to receive severance they deserve to receive. Who knows though!

@bj you don't know how to aggressively search for jobs, when you know you're losing your pay in 60 days + the severance amount because you have to passively work at a job you know is letting you go?

@bh THIS! 2 less months to aggressively search for work because of the stay on period.

A decent number of people are being told to keep working thru the admin period so count your blessings.

"games being played....."

Would you have rather them posted a WARN 60 days ago and then you have gotten a surprise lay off today and collected severance tomorrow?

Or would you rather get laid off today, paid the next 60 days and then severance after?

One option gives you over 2-3 months to find a new job, the other doesn't. Don't be stupid.

@OP I’d rather have two months of pay during admin leave than be given a two month notice

April 13 end date is 63 days out, WARN notice needs 60. They should post it by friday once they have their fill of cost reduction.
