I currently work at bp and was approached by a recruiter with XOM. Would that be a good move right now? I’m not happy with bp, for obvious reasons - poor strategy, poor company performance, poor leadership, limited career growth opportunity, etc. From my perspective ExxonMobil looks leaps and bounds better, but I would love to hear thoughts from y’all.

@ht absolutely
What does any of that matter ? You accept jobs based on the business strategy?
@OP Same clowns different circus.
I’d get out of O&G instead of going from one super-major to another.
At EM here's what you'll find :
▪️ Poor strategy ✔️
▪️ Poor company performance ❌️ (but benefits only shareholders)
▪️ Poor leadership ✔️
▪️ Limited career growth opportunity ✔️ (unless you're in a low-cost country)
Exxon has been generally good to be a shareholder these days, awful to be an employee.
Same circus, different clowns
bp is paralysis by analysis and middle management that wants to create an infantile cozy work atmosphere. XOM its dog eat dog and someone has to take a PIP. New people or lateral transfers are easy targets and expendable. It’s a game that will 100% eventually get to you so think about it. Permian will be rocking for 3-5 years then coordinated decline. Eagleford shale is for sale. The asset you are selected will significantly affect your professional performance and mental health.
It's not any better over here. Vile people and no "leadership."
@am what if it's a big pay bump and this is being counted on? get in, get as much cash as you can in 5 years then GTFO. Good plan if you ask me.
You will be PIP’d within 5-years of coming aboard.
Grass always look greener on the other side
If your management at BP likes you then not worth taking the risk of living. Exxon only values Exxon experience. Experienced hires are second class citizens.
What you said you don't like about BP is far and away more true about XOM. The only difference being recent performance. XOM is ONLY doing well because we lucked into Guyana. If you come here you will be met with a worse culture, benefits, and generally not treated with respect compared to what you're used to. I really would advise against making that move.
