Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I'm no longer scared

Losing this job doesn't scare me like it used to. The environment has gotten so bad that leaving might be a relief. The benefits are poor and the culture is toxic, so what am I really protecting?

@fh You’re probably the one that used the company to harass me. I am not FnF, you are, what you did wasn’t right, I think you know that.

@f9 That is the Ford way: get a grip on yourself and at least pretend to enjoy the Kool-Aid.

@fh That is exactly what scares me, the sheer stupidity of the things that go on with no one regard for the health and safety of employees is terrifying. I don’t feel safe at work anymore, I go in numb every day, just praying things don’t get worse, because if they do, there are no protections. How bad do things have to get before someone with some sense steps up…

These people are utterly reprehensible. If you’re not FnF, you’re completely unprotected. They will go to any length to protect these people regardless of the cost to others. Stay away, I have zero confidence in our HR or management to do the right thing. Fairness used to be a cornerstone of Ford, yes I'm sure sh---y things happened, but it takes it to a new level when the SLT and the people that are supposed to be protecting the company and the employees go to lengths to enable damage.

I continue to put up with the nonsense for the money and because I have learned not to GAF about what most people think. That last point actually helps you do your job better when you realize upsetting someone at work doesn't really matter too much. If I get fired for performance or otherwise (we all know that also high performance doesn't really matter), I have plenty of places to go to make the same or more. This arrangement just happens to work out for me right now. The second it doesn't I'll take appropriate action just like they would if it turned out I wasn't working out for them. Right now it works, next year or next month it might not.

LOL. I'll give you credit. You do resist empirical proof wherever it exists don't you? You seem to have a penchant for holding the exact opposite of a logical opinion, and you're unapologetic for being wrong about it.

You should only fear position/resource adjustments if you do not work in the core growth areas of the company such as Model e, software, or Skunkworks. This has been discussed in this forum before.

@OP. I hear you. I am not "scared" of losing my job at Ford, but a little concerned (due to ageism). I know I'll get another job after Ford, just not as well paid as this one. So I have been focusing on saving for my retirement (no pension for me).

The company su-ks, the job is very boring, and it would be extremely frustrating if I'd give a F about it. My goal is to stay as much as I can, maximizing my retirement funds. I no longer care for professional development, just the "green".

Younger people, particularly with families, don't have the luxury of waiting to be kicked out. They should be actively looking for the next job. Old farts like me, we already have paid our homes, we do not care to drive the latest model (so what we drive it is already paid for), our expenses are lower (except health related ones), so we can wait for the other shoe to drop.

I’m not scared but I would miss the paycheck. That said Ford hasn’t been the same for me for a couple of years, and that makes the thought of having to leave easier. The people can be downright vicious, some are great but it doesn’t take many bad apples to sour a bushel. I still hope things get back to normal someday.

If you are saying you are not scared to lose your job, it means you are scared. When Ford tells you, it’s nothing personal when you get fired it is. When Ford tells you are not getting laid off, it means you are.

100%. IDGAF about my rating or bonus. This place is too toxic to care about anything anymore.
