New Sales Comp Plan Blows

So basically they want sales reps working for salary only (no commission) up to the first 60% of your quota. Then you only get paid on the portion above 60%. Does MD personally just ignore the first 60% of revenue that comes in to the company? Ridiculous. Got one of the 10 richest men in the world trying to squeeze people who helped him get there. His company; he started it. He can do what he wants. But not sure how he sleeps at night knowing he's sc--wing the people who continue to pad his pockets. And management is spewing the executive BS line saying that none of us are in sales to underachieve and how we should be motivated by the upside. More BS. There will be a lot of people leaving, which is their goal with this plan. Well done MD and schmedium-size t-shirt wearing JC.

Here’s to hoping management gets hit with a big fat Zero too. The quotas are astronomical- so why work hard for no commission in quarter? This plan will certainly thin the herd, but at what loss to the sales force? Good people will find other opportunities outside of Dell. That will be left with the weakest of the weak who can’t get another job.

How to take money from the people who carry the relationships. If HP and Lenovo would just read this message board it would be easy to take market share from Dell.

Inside sales is a glorified admin role masquerading as sales - endless quoting, goal files piling up, chained to a desk five days a week. If that sounds fulfilling, congratulations you’ve found your calling.

And yes, the new comp plan is terrible. But at some point you have to decide whether you’re going to take a stand or quietly accept it. The money is flowing to the field, and leadership has made one thing crystal clear: inside reps are not valued, it’s obvious by how they gaslight us. I think more than 80% of isr’s are just sick and tired of this place.

Inside sales roles are largely centered on quoting and pipeline management, and compensation is typically aligned with that responsibility set. If someone believes they’re being underpaid, it may be time to reassess whether the role is the right fit.

« This plan is in favor of top scorers ». Me : I know my quota, I will book more than my quota in Q1 which is frankly not an easy one, and il will be paid at 0. Why ? Because it won’t be shipped. Best case, a part could be but let me only reach 30% meaning 0. But this plan is in favor of our top g-n sales employee. Bullsh-t, you’re stealing us. Period. But Karma will knock on your doors…

@dt has got it.

Add to the mix quotas that may not be realistic, it doesn't look good.

@a8 this isn't new. We've known for a long time. But THIS comp plan takes the cake.

@bc clearly spoken by someone not in sales. Give us a realistic goal. But I'm wasting my breath on you.

@e8 everything is always "on the roadmap". Yet they keep telling us our products are the best. We are viewed as outdated. All our comp is "modern".

@ec clearly you're not in sales. People go into sales to make above base salary. But you do you.

@dp Product Ownership does not exist at Dell, no disagreement there, but Engineering absolutely DOES NOT build what they're told to, especially when. Look at Santorini and now Hydra. What a cluster fu-k. 6-8 years behind.

You're always years behind the competition, your products are a bug factory when they actually do release, and your features are always half baked. In short, Dell engineering is a joke.

Q1
Month 1 25% draw
Month 2 25% draw
Month 3.... finish below 60% of target $0 payout

Q2
Month 1 Payback 25% draw from Q1
Month 2 Payback 25% draw from Q1
Month 3 finish on at least 80% of target (shipped not booked) before you see a dime or you still owe money into Q3

Add into the mix increased targets and ongoing supply issues with long lead times... Too Small Tshirt bro is f*cking sellers

@bp blame product ownership, not engineering. We build what we're told to build.

@OP New SCP is designed to get sales folks to quit. Dell needs more people to self exit.

If Engineering would actually deliver products and solutions we could sell - those that compete and actually work - maybe we could hit quota. Dell Enterprise products are laughed at by the competition.

@bc lazy! only a few years ago I was one of the 1% club sent to a far flung place for my achievement. Blood, sweat and tears got me there, no favouritism. We’re all now in the trenches being shelled by our own g-ns. Let’s not turn on each other because that’s what they want. We recognised all for the value they bring, which has made this company what it was. Let’s stay united!

Stop your whining and get 200% of your quota. Ge-z, lazy sales people.

This is superb news. Having demoralised Dell sales people is exactly what we the competition wants. As you cry into your oatmeal vanilla latte, we are going to knock you out. Su-k it up butter cups then hit the bricks. You’re fired.

While ELT see this as a win. If I was the competition I would be incentivising my sales team to knock out Dell now that our “foot soldiers” are suppressed. I’ve been loyal to this company, and once felt something telling people I worked for Dell, also enjoyed winning against the competition. Now I’m saddened and soon to be poor by this short sighted decision of greed.

@OP It's not a comp plan. It's a plan to get more and more employees to quit on their own so these greedy ba----ds don't have to pay severance.

You are overlooking the Dell corporate perspective in all of this. Fairness (or not) of the compensation plan and quota setting aside, Dell is not interested in employing you if you cannot achieve at least 60% of your quota. And Dell getting 60% of your quota with no commission payout is very attractive to them. This is just another WFR plan without paying severance.

I don't want to gloat, but I also somehow find joy in that sales finally finds out what kind of company this is after every supporting role has been fu---d over for years.
