Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Union in Australia

Reading the Fair Work Act 2009 and if my understanding is correct Dell cannot stop you from unionizing. Furthermore, it is illegal for an employer to take "adverse action" against you for being a union member or participating in union activities. This includes but is not limited to fire or demotion, refusal of hire because of your union history, discrimination (cutting hours or denying promotions), coerce or pressure you to quit the union.

“If your employer is intimidating you or treating you unfairly because of your interest in a union, you can contact the Fair Work Ombudsman or the Fair Work Commission.”

With the above said what is stopping us from joining union and pushing back on this unethical and utterly unfair commission plan?

Are we all going to fold our tails and cop it?

@rq it’s quite simple. We have to pick a union and from the research Australian Services Union is the best for dealing with American Tech companies. After we join we need to tell them something along the lines “I just joined, and no one else at my work is a member." They will assign an Organiser to help us. The organiser will come out and we can sign up to the Union.

They key is not to complain OFFICIALLY about the new comp plan until AFTER we have union representation.

Can we use this comment as gauge on how many people would join? Please upvote if you would join and down vote if you wouldn’t.

And here I was thinking I was the only one thinking it. Only way to do it is to make ourselves known to each other and gather the numbers before mgt have time to react. So how do we do that

We Aussies have always been fearless, let's chart a path for the rest to follow... yes mates we can turn the tables on "the man", it's time for the worker to have control of his destiny and wellbeing.
