AVP layer, what exactly they do

I hope some one from HR or Dan’y boy can read this, what does exactly AVP role is. Its a useless and pointless position. A Sr.Dir/Dir can report directly to a VP and and AD can go back to Sr.Manager.
Sr. Manager ——- Director——-VP
Simple and leaner, all those extra layers cause delays, friction and stress!!!!

VP/4V down to Supervisor/7V is all the same. Managing-by-numbers to the scorecards of your direct reports. Only at the SVP level do you get any real control of the business such as approving large purchases, signing off on new business, and changing vendors the company uses.

This post be from a senior manager because from my perspective all they do is approve my POs and remind me what the senior director told us in a meeting yesterday

VZ titles under Sam went haywire. So called senior managers now do data entry and refresh files while getting paid $200k a year all in. AVPs mostly ask if your pulse survey is complete and post on linkedin about how honored and humbled they are.

@OP Verizon management is a pyramid scheme based on faking competence and dedication. Title inflation is an essential part of it.

@OP the posed question has shortsightedness or is it double-vision?

Question, should not be limited to the numbers of Director layers but unlimited to higher, the VP layers, VP, SVP, EVP, being inclusive?

HR is doing a horrible job keeping the business best interest first as long as Sam stays as it is hard for her to change course.

Dan, Alfonso or any other Dan's close circle need to start this and watch it carefully, they should not trust any of current management, NONE. I would event suggest Dan's team to interview current management layers starting from AD all the way to SVP and pick those qualified and most importantly those who are a good fit into Dan's vision, as most of current goons will work against what Dan is trying to accomplish.

SrMgr - Dir - VP makes sense, However more importantly do not put multiple managers/dirs/vps on the same product/platform/project/application...etc or it wouldn't make any difference, they will still be spending most of the time fighting which delays projects as well as demotivate people.
