Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I don't think there will be a "big" layoff this year

Historically it's always been February and August when Dell does their heavy "cleanup" and then with light sweeps in between.

Mav is behind schedule and I'm 100% positive it will not be ready by May - when JC wants it to be lol... It's too important of a project - that will likely fail - for dell to worry much about layoffs on a larger scale, anyways.

Sales has already been given a dog sh-t COMP so clearly the goal there is to force resignations and/or put a LOT of people on PIP's.

IF Dell's true headcount number is 90k, then we are just about there as of now.

The large scale FEB/AUG layoffs IMPO aren't needed anymore as they are super close to their goal now, and there isn't much reason to have 3k+ layoff cycles that make the news anymore.

Some orgs are likely being hit now but, I'd imagine it's far smaller than years past.

@eh That may be but, I think the original goal was to get below 100k which they did pretty quickly via large layoffs x2 a year for the last 6-7 years - which they've done now - so now they are slowing it down to normal. Chances are, you're right though. They will keep stretching that rubber band to see how far they can go before it snaps; then will hire cheap labor (interns) and call it a day

There's no need to have a layoff, that falls under the WARN act and may incur severance costs, when you can just make it so sh---y to work there that everyone quits.

I saw in a post I think from Dec that the current headcount is 98K. So still 10% to shed this year.

While I do not disagree, they will keep pushing the number down until things actually break and/or they rehire cheaper labor. I just wish they would take the same tack with our leadership teams... I assume the new target will be 75K, and if things still function, push it to 70K, 65K, and just rehire interns who will work for much less and put in 40+hrs a week....

Dell used to do layoffs the old fashioned way - large batches, severance, reorgs, etc.

Now, they've turned to a more slimy way of doing it - creating policies that literally force people to quit on their own.

This direction likely comes from Dell's consulting partners, giving Dell all sorts of slimy ways to save money and sc--w over their employees.

To add on to this, I feel like PIP's are the new future at Dell for a while as that enables them to NOT pay a severance... They did the twice/year big layoffs for the last 6 years and qare now so close to their goal in which large layoffs aren't necessary when they can just force people to quit all together.
