Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

I hope that I will be able to make it to the retirement

One of the main reasons why most decide to stay at UP for a while longer is because they are counting down to retirement. However, how wise is that? I still have a few years left until retirement and I must admit that I am constantly worried about whether I will be able to make it or whether one day I will be cut shortly before retirement and then end up in an even worse position to look for a new job. It wouldn't be the first time it happened to someone.

Never trust a Clss 1 Railroad, especially not UP. 20 years of my career wasted, but glad I got our alive, though Uncle Pete tried his best to ki-l me.

The struggle is real but the result (RR retirement) is sweet, so I’ve been told be retirees. Hang in there.

I know what you mean. I spent my life devoted to SP and then UP. I gave them 150% as an engineer and company officer based in Omaha. In 2018 I made the biggest mistake of my life…I turned 55! My buddy Lance Fritz, who I helped save from a disaster when he was VP of Coal, chopped me in the 2018 massacre. Not only can I not find another job, but UP has blackballed those let go.

UP ruined my life. I can’t max out my retirement. Can’t get another RRT job and am now approaching 60. UP cost me my entire life.

I gave up on making to retirement. There's many other people that did the same thing. Retirement became a pipe dream for many when they altered the rules and adopted PSR. After 27 years, I just couldn't take it anymore. The lower management or just management in general was always looking for anything they could find to write you up. Plus they'd make up fictitious complaints to spread during their management calls, to try to get whoever they didn't like fired. I've said for years to the new hires about always covering your a-s. I can't work for any company, if I can't trust the management that runs it. I'd be more concerned about the time I have left after retirement.

It sounds to me your a walking accident if your constantly worried. Get pull out of service for stress , anxiety and lack of rest from work . Make sure you tell them you have night terrors and noght sweats. Then youll make it to retirement on medical.

The $ planners suggest to have the amount of 6 months of pay saved at your bank, do what you can to reduce loan amounts you owe, start an IRA savings for retirement . You have more financial freedom then , not worry much about the future then . I myself give money to my local church first , then do all $ saving plans.

I used to worry, contemplate, and stress over questions like this. No more. I will look to no govt, no corporation, nor any man to offer me any form of security or sustenance. I do the best job I can, I enjoy each day, and I trust only in our creator about my future.

Phillipians 4:6-7
Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.

All depends on seniority and what craft. Class Ones foam at the mouth brain storming what cuts can they do next. And if your job CAN be replaced by a machine or computer? You know it's coming. Shop crafts are screwed because they have seniority ONLY in their shop.
