Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

My new job description is "Mercenary"

Rick had zero cred with me. He lost more.

I heard the comment and what stuck was the implication that working from home means you are a hired g-n, not really “one of us.” That is an unnecessary jab at people who are doing the work and caring about clients every day. You can advocate for more in person collaboration without framing remote employees as outsiders. The label is the problem, not the location.

Mercenary! Mercenary!

  • They may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom!*
That's wrong. They take our lives. Without appreciation. Freedom is an illusion. And soon only three days a week.

Rick showed his disdain for employees with that comment. The employees of this firm deserve so much better.

Rick talks like someone who believes the workforce is too stupid to notice he has no idea how to lead people.

Ricky gave everyone permission to admit reality. Loyalty, working beyond the basics, merit aren't values. You don't keep your job unless you kiss up and quiet down.

Mercenary is a daily affirmation. Pay me. Work. No friendship. No expectations. As romantic as a high end escort. Thanks Ricky!

I’m tired of being expected to perform while the ground is deliberately kept unstable. You don’t get to ask for focus, care, and long-term thinking while keeping everyone in a state of low-grade fear.

The “mercenary” comment pi---d me off because it was dishonest. Don’t call me a mercenary like it’s a moral failing when you built the battlefield this way. You commodified labor, normalized layoffs, broke loyalty into quarterly increments, and now you’re surprised people adapted? Spare me. If this is transactional, then stop pretending you’re wounded when employees act accordingly.
