I was less than 2 years away from retiring and just received a 30% raise in June when I was laid off in August.. I thought when I got the raise, I would be safe for another year: not. It's ok though, I am doing a part-time semi-retirement gig completely away from tech and loving it.
OP - when I was counting down to retirement i made sure I took as much of the intro training on different subjects as I could, maxed out the tuition benefit to study up in AI with some MIT continuing ed courses. I now speak and write on AI and the psychology of adopting it.
My wife asked me if I really what retirement means. .
