Thread regarding Blackbaud Inc. layoffs

Leave Blackbaud!

Nobody should be surprised Blackbaud is getting worse and worse. You literally have no excuses. Find anything better as soon as you can!

I left years ago and it‘s the best decision I‘ve ever made. Hearing about Mike‘s latest email is awful. You only have yourselves to blame if you keep your head in the sand and think either things will get better or you won’t be affected soon.

Everyone has an expiry date. Don‘t let them trigger it early on their terms.

@1wq out of interest, what was the broad topic of what you reported - and did you suffer any detriment from that whistleblowing? That’s usually the hard one to prove!

@zr former employee here. I used the allegedly anonymous "whistleblower" mechanism years ago. Weeks later, the accused (a VP) unconnected from me on LinkedIn.

I was in no way directly connected to the incident. I reported it as a third party who was told about it by other individuals. I told no one I did so until two years later.

@zr I'm the person you're responding to.
I read that the only real way to do this safely, is to talk confidentially with a trusted person, and then start pulling in people from there. Basically the game where you talk to two people, they each talk to two people, and so on. Everyone has to trust the people they're inviting into the circle for safety.

Once you have enough people, someone has to talk to union reps - at which point there is hopefully enough collective people in the circle that they can stick up for the person that has to eventually "go on the record" to get it started officially.

@y3 Unfortunately being made into a target is a very real threat indeed. Personally witnessed this happen to a colleague last year trying to speak up against unethical behavior. Needless to say they are no longer here.

It needs more than one voice.

I agree that a union is needed, but how do you start one? At some point someone has to come out and say who they really are so that others can collaborate with them, but no one wants to do that because it makes them a target.

Agree.

“You deserve a tech union” from the library, Libby app, or buy online

One option:

Also check out kickstarter’s union

Hard fight for sure but the only possible solution for workers who want to stay and believe in the stated mission

The only mechanism to combat this would be a collective action - unionization, walkout, etc. This company can’t operate without its US workforce. The US employees still hold the power but this is only true while they have the numbers.
