Thread regarding Optum layoffs

A better way to handle layoffs

They could completely change the vibe around here if they just handled layoffs differently. What if they actually treated people leaving with some respect, offered a good severance package, and even asked for volunteers first? It wouldn't fix everything, but it would stop morale from cratering every single time.

They could just can everyone in one go and get it over with. Idc it’s just the bi weekly bs that’s old

The severance package is actually right in the center of business standards.

yall, this is a trillion dollar company... they do not care about you just like you don't care about them.

You’re working for an unethical company. This year the noose will tighten even more around their scheme book and the powers will continue to realize this, so why would they care about their employees if they don’t care about their membership. These are all Wall Street brokers who realized they could fleece the government.

Similar has been said in other threads but the company has made a conscious decision to cut costs and encourage attrition. They've had merit funding at less than half of inflation for over 5 years, they've cut the ESPP, can't remember the last time RRP was even close to target funding let alone above, cut 401K funding, cut executive saving plan matching, cranked up medical premiums way above normal trend, and instituted rigid RTO rules.

This didn't all happen by accident or without being thought through. We are a company that has been transitioning from a growth/acquisition phase to a mature/margin optimizing phase. That phase requires them to cut costs and they've obviously decided to do at our expense in a heartless, milk us for whater they can, damn the impact on the employee way. It su-ks but that's what they decided strategically to do.

I saw this coming 2 years ago. Through all of this stress my only solace is that I had 2 years to prepare my finances for what was coming. Because everything moves at a snail's pace at Optum....even layoffs.

@OP I worked for a company like that. I don’t know if there are any left. However, this company will be treated the same way it’s treating its employees.

I agree but unfortunately, they do not care. You must accept and move on. :( It's great that we have a long weekend, but it's hard to "forget" about the fact this week will be challenging for so many of us. Good luck!
