Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Network is our product

Our network is our product. Schulman maximizing profitability at the expense of our product will quickly drive customers away in mass.

He doesn’t understand how the network really works, and everyone in the room with him is telling him want he wants to hear to stay off the chopping block.

Dangerous game we’re playing here

we probably need Elon to look into this matter. I think the industry is changing. Satellit might become cheaper and more effective in the future

The network as a product is no longer a selling point.. it hasn’t been since the days of BlackBerry and CDMA. Everyone uses the same technology, it’s just deployed in different ways. Verizon has been deploying their technology (the same as ATT and TMB) in the manner they did CDMA. While ATT and TMB have thrown it up any which way. Can you hear me now was almost 20 years ago. Meanwhile, coverage for customers lags behind in secondary markets and in some major markets. The different between winning a root drive is less than 1% between the big three. That is why mister PayPal is cutting staff! Own it and you will survive.

@ab I can't speak for now, but we were absolutely vocal about things when I was still there. Countless directors meetings where valid concerns were brought up - time and time again. And nobody ever cared.. Without fail the answer was always some version of "The industry is changing and we have to change with it!"

After a point some guys just said "What's the point" and checked out.. Didn't ask any questions, and didn't offer any feedback - that management didn't want to hear anyway.

@a3 Yep, exact same thing in our area. Except the ones who are left keep enabling the problem by trying to do 3 jobs and not being vocal about the problems.

@a7 they should start managing to protect national security, which means a resilient network, instead of like a diversity day camp.

100%. fear-based, incapable leaders are destroying the company. its been degrading for atleast a decade and will continue. also hiring so many non-US citizens and people born in foreign countries adds to the potential of bad actors within the company.

Sounds nice, but VZW has been doing exactly that for years. I worked in Network and 10yrs ago we had around 15 techs in our market.. This person retired and they didn't replace him, another one moved away and they didn't replace him - then layoffs slashed several more. The projects kept pouring in though, and now they're down to just THREE to do even more work than what we had when there was 15 of us.
