Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

RIFed employees - how are you holding up?

It’s the second “working” Monday morning of the year. The first week back from the holidays is just over, and now reality sets in. How are you doing?
I have about 10 applications to other companies in a “submitted” status. I had one interview in December that I thought went very well but I haven’t heard back from yet. I am grateful to have the time with my family, but this morning I’m feeling dejected. Yes, picking myself up by my bootstraps, but looking for some candor here. Working here for 23 years, it’s like I imagine a divorce to be, feelings are up and down. I even miss the commute. Probably the routine, really.
How about you?

Glad to be away from such a toxic work environment. Starting school in a whole different industry.

@hx the Udemy course subscription was a ridiculous way to claim Verizon was helping people reskill. it would have been more valuable to give a cash payment to employees. nothing more than a PR move by a toxic company.

Mainly I miss talking to others. It’s so quiet.

I still don’t know what I did wrong.

I never did get access to the education courses. I assume that 20 million just wasn’t something I was eligible for. I put some college classes on a credit card. Paying off is a problem for the future.

I’ve lost about 15 pounds. Starting to figure out cheaper foods to get by.

Hubby last day was 12/19. He has found a job. He is the type that he can't sit around!

@OP I can relate! I wake up everyday and pray that the big guy upstairs gets in my head before I do, lol. Seriously though, I find it helpful to basically stick to the same schedule I had previously, that is, to sit at my desk all day, just doing different work: setting a daily schedule, applying to jobs, meeting with the outplacement advisor, etc. It seems to have helped me feel normal for the time being until something comes along, which I have faith that it will soon enough. Good luck to you!

Doing great when seeing executives post they “have the right people” now for their 2026 kickoff. What an admirable company and leadership team.

I (in CA) am technically still on payroll through 1/23 but because of my dept, am not working this month. Sent my first round of applications this weekend, but I'm definitely feeling the anxiety as month end nears. Wishing you good luck!!

I am still bitter about the treatment of the employees especially the 30+ and I make sure to tell everyone I know what kind of Compnay verizon is and they should go to TMO.

I was feeling pretty down until a couple weeks ago. Too depressed to start looking. I had applied for one job but didn’t get it. Told myself I would hit it hard this week with applying,LinkedIn, etc. Luckily, because of my financial situation I would be just fine not working for about 6 months. Today I woke up with anxiety and feeling bad that I chose to take some time the first couple of weeks of Jan. Do you guys think that I set myself back significantly not starting the job hunt until this week?

I have to admit, I called verizon support for an issue with the bill (was lead astray at the store being talked into something....) and the guy spoke excellent english, didnt have the call center background noise and he solved my issue (full refund of unexpected charges).

Of course I spent 30 minutes on hold...

What department were you in? I was in the sales channel and landed another job immediately, definitely less stress (so far) and attainable goals which is a nice change.

I think some jobs are harder to get right now with this economy than others. Is there any way you can spin your resume towards jobs that are more in demand right now in the market? I’m sorry it’s a struggle but Verizon taught us how to speak well, deal with complex issues and provide good customer service while doing so and all of those skills are incredibly transferable you just need to put a spin on them maybe?

Retired, so everyday is Saturday. I asked for the rif, happy so far but it is tough getting adjusted to the no-nob thing. I wish you the best.
