Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Is TR now really just a stepping stone?

I’ve heard people say TR can be a stepping stone to better opportunities and that's it. Is that really what we've turned into?

Everyone's career path and needs are different. TR used to be a place where people wanted to stay long-term. That's no longer the case, and many of those people were forced out, left on their own accord, or retired. The important thing is not to buy into the HR hype of "we're all family" and "people are more interested in non-financial rewards" wherever you work. It's simply not true. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, people change jobs about every three years now. You have to consider what works for you personally, your family, and your work environment.

I mean when you don’t have any upward mobility and you’re just laying off people every year and offshoring… it will naturally be just a stepping stone. How else do you think people will grow?
