Thread regarding Optum layoffs

The absolute worst thing about finding a new job?

Nothing fundamentally changes. Layoffs still loom, your manager's just as terrible, the office drama is equally exhausting, most of the work is meaningless garbage with processes that are completely broken, and you're still unhappy. Swear to god, even the damn walls looked the same at my previous two places. It's a necessity, but almost never an improvement. Pretty bleak.

At least (most) other companies don't profit of the death of its customers, make billions every quarter, and lay off more employees just to keep the corporate jet hanger warm and 4 private planes fueled.

One of the most sc-mbag companies you could work for.

For some of us it’s not the people but the offshore/layoff culture. It takes a lot of time/money to stay current and keep up your certifications. And as a US citizen, not part of the caste system, it doesn’t matter. All companies will lay you off because they are shipping it offshore and/or the leadership is mostly one nationality.

So, yeah you start to wonder if it’s worth it anymore. I am sure that is exactly what offshore wants … and companies complain ‘they can’t find anyone so more visas please’.

Prior to all this offshoring layoffs were mainly caused by lack of profit/sales. Those of us remaining would give 300%/innovate no questions asked to right the ship. US companies have lost this, not sure our replacements will do the same.

@OP- This is so true. Could already feel it in the many interviews I had over the last year.

It’s the muscle memory that makes it worthwhile. You have a resume and have interviewed in the last few years. Many of the 20+ year company men who get laid off never find new work largely due to never needing to build that routine. They have no resume. They haven’t been involved in an interview in decades.
