But I’m so glad I got laid off. I landed a great job within days. Don’t get me wrong, it was pure d-mb luck, and I know that’s far from the reality of the job market right now. I honestly wish the same break for everyone. We don’t deserve to live in constant fear of losing a job and then struggling endlessly to find another. Life should feel like living, not just surviving.

Congratulations! Best case scenario.
The below comment is what I mean by the Verizon Kool Aid.
Thinking you have the only job on the market that pays well and look down on anyone else who leaves the company assuming they’re now working, what, fast food?
Terrible culture.
Hey, Bob. Get off your phone and back to your register. The drive thru is running into the street. Last warning
I would agree that Verizon used to be a great place to work. Used to love the job I had. Hopefully it turns around for all the good people still there. As for my new job, yes it’s still corporate, but it’s less kool aid drinking. Verizon kind of feels like your entire identity and life and the overtime is wild. So far new job is working 40ish hours per week and no bleeding into outside or having the company be an identity or lifestyle
Nice. Did you still collect your severance from Verizon?
Congrats on landing a new job...time will tell though if it's actually 'great' or not.
Assuming your still involved Corporate work you will have ups & downs just like you did at Verizon. There's no such thing as a perfect employer.
Every company goes through different phases that impact its employees in different ways. Not too long ago Verizon was viewed as a good place to work while it was in a growth mode with wireless. Now that the company is in trouble and forced to cut costs (AKA., employee layoffs) to correct itself it's viewed the opposite way.
Same thing happened to me. Was picked up right away and able to pay off all my debt while starting a new job that already feels so much more like a job instead of a lifestyle
Happy for you OP and praying everyone finds the same peace and comfort.
