Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

What is the timeline to getting promoted once you are a level 5 or 6. Is it 1-2 years?

I see some people getting promoted rapidly within 1-2 years max and others still have the same title after 4-5 years.

It depends on lots of factors. The 31 flavors of nepotism are a huge problem at Fidelity. If your manager happens to be from another country and you are not, you will have to switch to a different role to get it. You can be in the same level for 10 years, get EPs every year, and others will get promoted before you if they're from the same background. I wish that was paranoia or racism but it's experience from lots of people.

TL;DR: apply for openings because you're unlikely to get promoted past level 6

For you to get promoted, a lot of things have to be in place. You’ve been in role more than a year, you’re performing exceptionally, you’re already operating at the next level, there’s a business need for a grade 6, you’re working on very high profile work that has a demonstrable impact on the business, your manager can show that you’re more deserving of a promotion than others in your larger team, and more. You are more likely to get to the next level by looking around.

Once you are at level 6, there is typically career stagnancy.
To get a director level role is applying open positions and using your network
Dont expect somebody promoting you in the same team. You are lucky if it happens.
Most of the time it is a waiting game.

I have had 4 or 5 reps call me this year to try to answer my investment questions as I made changes. No one remembers my account needs or even my name. I lost so much money. Bad management and will switch with so many bad reps

It really depends on your specific job, department, the year and how many people in your group can get promoted in a given cycle. Some people get stuck because the do a good job and wait to get promoted. Others get promoted fast because they kiss butt and are the most vocal. There’s not really an average time for promotions

Doing your job well won't get you there. You have to play the game, kiss the correct backsides and in some groups be the correct gender.

I know I'm over qualified for level 6

But unfortunately some managers prefer fidelity experience before making a case for promotion.

Until you do your time, you can't expect a dime.
