Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Is anybody else dreading going into work?

Being away for a week only made me realize how miserable I am at Dell. I know I'll be tripling my job search efforts in the new year.

Yes of course, where targets to at we set that are so out of touch with the market. Where the execs gloat about revenues up and brining operational expenses down - yes of course cause your not paying any commission ffs. It’s such a fake economic view. What’s to like here…

How can you NOT dread going to work at a place where any day can be your last?
How does management think this will work out?

@bn The thankfulness and gratefulness is a pathetic reaction to the trauma of being laid off. I did it myself, and I cringe to think about my farewell message. It's a relief to be WFRed from a place as wretched as Dell, but there is also very real fear / panic lurking just behind the cheery persona. There's a bizarre compulsion to broadcast ridiculous gratitude and positivity, because everyone says that negative people have no chance. If you are just grateful enough, everyone will view your crashout from a bad job as some hugely successful pivot from a great role where you were changing the world, delighting stakeholders and performing at an insanely great level!

I have worked for 4-5 different companies in my career and apparently gained a lot of experience before joining Dell. Dell management was never open and now have turned into a dreaded beast. Be there slaves or you will be on their next list. What kind of culture is that? HR has always been a silent BS in the background - benefits like activity awards are so meaningless when the daily mental torture is at its peak. No strategy -- daily new rules for everything -- no long term vision. Sell any Sh*t to management who has no idea about what it takes to deliver next gen tech. Obsolete dinosaurs lead the company.

@bq

I am hoping the pendulum swings back like it was during covid. But, I don't think it will. There is always hope.

The dread of management not managing.

The dead of working, no matter how hard, how long, you do not feel you're valued.

The dread of that ever growing inbox for taking a few days off, even over the holidays as there's not even staff because we are up do more with less, not do more and be paid more.

The dead of not knowing if your time is up and it was all for nothing.

I am seeing Dell people on linkedin being let go as of today. They frame it as being thankful.

Just emailed my resignation to the boss. When you walk past my cube on 228 you’ll know what happened.
The new job starts January 5. I’ve requested a shipping label to return my computer and cell phone.
I was shocked that there are companies where hiring and other functions don’t go dormant until after the holidays.

Best of luck to my colleagues who are still searching and to those who are going to try and make a go of Dell.

You just don't know what will happen next. Management can't tell you anything. The job used to be fun.

Y'all refreshed and ready for another year of wondering and dreading every Monday. Management is refreshed and they made their lists and they checked them twice. Get ready for February.
