BC mill workers question ongoing raw log exports amid layoffs

Laid-off workers at Western Forest Products’ Chemainus mill say continued raw log exports are costing local jobs, arguing their mill could still be operating if more fibre remained in B.C. The mill has been shut since mid-July, leaving 150 workers out of work while nearby logs are graded for export.

apparently hemlock is exported as raw log, mill not ready to take that one. could setup for shipping more efficient squared timber though, rather than raw logs.
