Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

You are not really free

All of the boomers on here will tell you that you are fortunate and should be grateful for the opportunity you have to work for a company, blah...blah. The reality is that none of us matter to any company, and none of us have ever mattered. The entire system is built to keep us indebted to, and dependent on, corporations. I consider myself politically very conservative, and I am not afraid to admit this. America was sold out long ago. We haven't had a true free market economy for at least 50 years or more. Everything that is done now is done to enrich corporations and political leaders. Banks and financial companies are some of the worst exploiters of the American people in existence. As long as we are indebted just to live, we can't ever be truly free.

Remember giving advice to a mentee over 15 years ago, suggesting she focus on X, Y, and Z, but most importantly, saving enough money to retire or be let go whenever she wanted. It wasn’t a retirement goal; just about being able to. She did retire in her 40s after a great career with excellent performance. The advice I didn't give was offered by OP. Leave the company, and any company, within four years. No matter what. Your raises will not keep up with the hiring bumps in salary you'll get by leaving.

@OP I don't think your comment about boomers is correct I think many of them are suffering just like any of the other employees at Schwab I think it's a horrible company but what makes it even more horrible is the fact that the senior management in that organization likes to blow a lot of smoke about career, opportunity and teamwork, family, etc. at the expense of the young people coming out of colleges and at the loyal staff that they've had over the years

I am a former senior manager from this organization, and I can tell you that this is no place to language from a "Chris" standpoint. If you're a young person of college and this is your first job, you should make every opportunity to get out of this organization as soon as possible find for a year or two but if you stay there any longer, he will get caught up in the machine and stuck in the cogs. This is a terrible company with no opportunity and Ltd career advancement.is is a terrible company with no opportunity and Ltd career advancement.

Living within your means, and debt free, is something you can control.

Will it be a life in luxury? For most, no!
