Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon Communications, Inc. + Frontier Telecommunications (NOT the low budget airlines)

Yes, Verizon is in the process of acquiring Frontier Communications in a major $20 billion deal announced in September 2024, with the goal of integrating Frontier's significant fiber network to expand Verizon's broadband offerings nationwide, and the acquisition has received regulatory approval (like from the FCC and state PUCs) with an expected closing by early next month. This acquisition combines Frontier's pure-play fiber assets with Verizon's wireless and existing fiber (Fios) services, aiming to create a stronger, combined broadband and mobile provider.

Frontier’s significant fiber network consists of a lot of fiber that was placed by Verizon before it was sold to Frontier. However it could be a good deal if they can execute on the potential cost savings and opportunity to gain more wireless share through bundles. With the new CEO there will probably be more personnel losses than previously anticipated. Verizon is also gaining more market share which will enable them to squeeze suppliers more. That’s not counting the efficiency of getting assets they are familiar with in a lot of cases.

Governor Abbott enacted a law banning DEI from all state agencies. Most private sector companies that have DEI programs seem be taking the hint and at least toning things down as well.
FWIW: within a week of the ban being enacted, I was inundated with unsolicited job offers from the state. I finally got an offer I couldn't refuse so I left Verizon to work for the state of Texas.

Hey Schulman you need to see 1st-hand how many Verizon H-1B employees are always using their "12-weeks" of accrued paternity and maternity leave?

@OP: does Frontier Communications, Dallas, Texas [red state not a blue state as with Verizon, such as NJ/NY], have any H-1B employees?
