Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Quitting - would they make you work the 2 week notice?

I work as a Coding Analyst I’m going to be quitting. Anyone know if they make work out the two week notice? Debating whether to give a 2 week notice or just quit the last day I would want to work.

I made the original post: if anyone was curious, I did quit and gave a 2 week resignation notice… do not have to work the 2 week notice got notified that I am released and will be paid for the 2 week notice… feels really great not to have to work at this company anymore… best wishes for anyone looking for other jobs right now.

If they aren’t giving a heads up to layoffs and slashing 401ks they don’t deserve a notice for quitting

I'm in the same department it really depends on your manager but typically you don't finish the 2 weeks notice. Just make sure you have paper work stating eligible for rehire. Good luck on your next endeavor!

@b1 a sign of good business unfortunately. That’s how deteriorated our society has become.

@b0 fantasy fiction. The only thing HR will ever provide are start and end dates. You watch too many TV dramas.

I don’t blame you. They have moved around all the coding people. It’s so stressful for everyone I’ve talked to. Management doesn’t really care at all, we are just a number. I am glad you are able to get out of here.

@OP if you get paid out for PTO, then give 2 weeks notice, slack off those 2 weeks and get paid. What are they going to do, write you up? Then you’ll also get your PTO payout.

If you don’t get paid for unused PTO, use up your time, come back and quit.

I'm in a state where PTO isn't required to be paid out - so, I used all of mine and quit immediately after. I was never going to use these a--clowns as a professional reference, so it made no sense to take 2 more weeks of abuse.

@ag I forget some of you live in states that aren't required to pay out PTO.. I would say don't take PTO if you can cash out on your last day.

So first of all, you have no obligation to tell any employer who you are going to go work for when you leave, unless you have a contract that call that out. Unless you do, I would not tell anyone. And yes, take your PTO and then give notice the same day as your last day. The world has changed, and not for the better, sad to say. They won't extend the same courtesy to you, so you are not obliged to either.

If you say you took a job at BCBS or Humana or any other competitor they don’t allow you to work those last two weeks. In my area anyway.

I would do this, because I’m petty and this company does not deserve anything from anyone: take your PTO, come back and say it’s your last day.

@a2 so they make you work the two week notice they don’t just make your notice day your last day? The PTO is not surprising considering with the 401k cuts, the aggressive layoffs and offshoring that this company is doing…

Yes the company policy is that once you give notice you can’t take PTO.
