Thread regarding NCR Corp. layoffs

Sad end of the original NCR. Born - Dayton, 1884; died - Atlanta, 2023. Worked there 1978 - 2004.

Happy Holidays to all. My Christmas wish is to have another job in 2023 so I won’t have to go through another year like this one. 2022 was one of the worst years of my work career thanks to NCR. I do appreciate all of those who post in this forum whether it’s NCR or other companies. It’s good to stay in the know as to what’s really going on out there. Wishing all of you success going forward, not sure what will happen in the coming year but I am energized to find something better after a few interviews. This company and my region have zero regard for work life balance.

NCR no longer cares or respects anyone. I retired from NCR this year after 35 years and only a few coworkers wished me farewell.

Another fellow employee who worked virtual retired after 36 years and only a few coworkers wished him farewell.

We are both glad to be retired, but we both feel let down and cheated.

Yes NCR has lost its shine and quickly become a no class company thanks to Mullet Boy.

NCR's present condition is the result of 15 years of serious incompetence at the board level and top 3 management levels of the company. The thing that ki---d NCR was the utter distain for employees coming from many of the executives of the company and lack of investment of internally developed technology. They took pride in having the lowest R&D investment of any of their competitors. The continual drive for lower cost which is achieved by laying off experienced employees and replacing them with employees at a lower pay rate ki---d them. The company will likely survive in some form as a shadow of it's past. As I've said before it's a good place to work if you can't find a job anywhere else.

They already owned a building in Duluth ga. No reason to building it. In 96 they were closing a small support center in New Jersey and moved south to Atlanta to be in Duluth building. Changes to building were not complete so we worked in some rented office space close by. Early 2001 they announced we and Duluth were being moved to the new support “to be” built in South Carolina. So we moved first, but Duluth building was spared. We worked in the engineering building that NCR owned. 2007 if I remember the date we were told they were closing and sold the building and were moving to peach tree circle for the new center of excellence. We went virtual till building was done. They moved a few but not the rest till everyone was laid off by 2016.

They have no clue how to manage properly. There was really no reason to make these kinda decisions without a clear plan. A lot I left out, but you think at that time a Fortune 500 would know what the he-l to do. Add to the stress they put on employees and some who have families. Just for their c band pay check and bonuses.

Look at NCR corporation on tiktok. It's just a bunch of videos of NCR trying to appeal to Georgia Tech grads. 2 "campuses", a restaurant, hang outs, video games, a nice view... That's what Nuti's vision was. Build a couple of huge buildings, hire grads that have no experience other than youtube, and leave. I'm not in Atlanta, so I have no idea what you guys get, other than what I hear is horrible traffic and parking.

Yes, the failures of leadership since the AT&T buyout / divesture have been enormous. The current team and the previous being the worst. I worked at NCR from 1974 to 2018. Watching it crumble from the outside is probably better than being on the inside. John H Patterson is rolling in his grave.
