Horrible economic news as layoffs surge to the highest point in years. The USA has laid off over a million people in 2025 and it’s only expected to get worse. These numbers could exceed what we have seen in the Great Depression. In November there were 71,000 layoffs in the United States.

@p8 Most companies have been doing this for 30 or 40 years.
@d3 You do realize that there were republican administrations during those periods of time.
@d5 As far as I know most companies are not hiring in US but instead moving to low cost centers
@kq the absolute mental gymnastics your cult does to justify his contradictions and hypocrisy is astounding. Just admit you were duped.
@ev Sure, if that's what your TDS told you then sure... He was talking to the reporter and their outlet btw... hence the word "you" and not "we" or "us."
@e9 You mean the administration where a reporter said "We have plenty of talented people here," and Trump responded: “No, you don’t" when explaining why we need H1Bs because Americans aren't skilled for the jobs?
@d3 And now we have an administration that is actually trying to prevent this and deter this from happening. A 100k charge for hiring offshore is a good start i think, as is trying to have US run companies be run by... American citizens.
As far as I'm aware, the last admin wanted the complete opposite lol.
Layoffs are normal.
But laying off tens of thousands of Americans while simultaneously hiring tens of thousands of foreigners is highly questionable.
We really need some action from Washington on this. Company should not be allowed to replace American workers with foreign ones so blatantly and openly.
The 100K fee is a start, but we need to address the abuse that has already taken place as well.
@cx yes. The difference is that we had administrations acknowledging those downturns trying to do something about them. We have an administration that completely ignores it.
You should have been around during the peace dividend in the early 90’s when defense spending dropped and people were laid off.
You should have been around during the Y2K when the Internet bubble burst when people were laid off.
You should have been around during the Great Recession in the 00’s when people were laid off.
This stuff runs in cycles and we are in the middle of a cycle.
@a5 Magnitude matters. It’ll dictate how long you’re likely to be out of work when you get let go, or how long the country is going to be going through this.
 Layoffs are part of the normal way the things in life go..
