I work in NJ. I have been Riffed . On salary (and working) until 2/16/2026 plus severance for a lot of weeks. IF I take a job BEFORE 2/16/2025, will I lose MY severance? Someone told me that I will . I have NOT confirmed with HR, yet. Anyone know and is in the same boat? Kind of makes me want to hold off looking for a NEW job!!!!!!!!!!! SO UNfair if true!

as long as your boss has told you to close out your current work and then focus on finding a new job, yes you are fine. Find another job. you just need to sign your agreement to get the severance.
Good luck … I can’t imagine your severance would do anything based on a new job unless it’s within vz . Remember the early bird gets the work … not a great job market and a lot of opportunity could be missed waiting . Just my 2cents
I'm (un) luckily in another state with a date off payroll of 12/19. I think they're banking on NJ employees finding a new job and forfeiting the severance.
If you leave before the end date, then yes, it is deemed as a resignation and you forfeit your severance and STI. It'd be exactly like "quitting". My coworkers in NJ and they answered it the same way for him.
First, you’re fortunate to live in NJ and have the nice severance cushion, however, don’t get complacent. Start looking for a job yesterday, as the job market su-ks; if by chance you do find and accept a job offer, consider yourself fortunate and damn the severance.
Note- if you do find a job, delay your start date as much as you can so you enjoy that severance pay as long as possible.
@a6 I am NOT worried about my salary until 2/16/2025. NOT worth the risk to double-dip. THAT would follow me any time I need a reference from VZ should I get "caught". I am CONCERNED about my SEVERENCE!
@OP Verizon could care less. Reading these post are just funny
@OP: consider yourself fortunate -- double bookings and keep it trucking!!!
If you are lucky to find a job before 2/20, take it! And don’t say a word to ANYONE. Dont worry about VZ finding out, the d-mb fu--s have no idea which end is up. As far as your boss, fu-k him or her too. If they call you into a meeting tell them you are seeing a mental health professional and the mo--ns will leave you alone
@OP If you get another job, start working for the new job. Don't tell anyone about your new job and I mean NO one but your spouse. And when you have to call in for a meeting at verizon, just call in sick. Everyone gets sick.
Keep your new employment secret and show up to VZ however your boss requires you to until the last day(moonlight) they have no way of knowing you got another job. If you QUIT prior to your release date, you'll lose the severance.
dont share with anybody if you get any external
If you somehow managed to get rehired by Verizon within that time frame, yes you would lose the % of remaining days of your prorated severance payment.
Check with Verizon HR for sure, but that's how corporate severance packages are structured to avoid someone doubl dipping (i.e., getting paid twice by same company for same time period).
How would VZ even know if/when you found a new job?
Don’t wait. It’s a horrible job market and will likely take longer than three months to land your next gig.
