MBA Duties

Are there any othe MBA’s who are doing 4 people jobs? I am expected to be floor coverage every day. I fit my duties in between covering the floor. I can go from doing overrides to pulling AP camera footage to helping fulfillment pack to safety audits! It’s exhausting! We are fully staffed management wise

If you are pulling AP video and you get caught, your job is in jeopardy, as is the job of the store manager who knows you have been given access to the camera room. You need to stop doing that NOW.

Yes we are all doing more than what our job title says.

A big waste of payroll as they are well compensated by retail standards. And no ISM at HSQ.

OMG…What a waste of payroll! And being that they are in NYC are probably on the higher end of the hourly range. They must have a lot of paperwork and oops forms to correct, idk…

HSQ does not have AST on every floor. They just moved back to the 8th floor from where HR was on the 7th floor. AST is "newer" to HSQ than the rest of the company. AST and HR were two separate departments until a few years ago. The AST associates, or as they are known as Business Administration, are not involved in any of the store operations on the floor. They only go to the vault on the first floor. AST in HSQ does not do half the things they do in other stores like replenish gift cards on the floor, etc. Managers and colleagues are told to not send any customers to AST. Everything must be handled on the floor. They do sit around and don't do much. They even have a lead BA colleague.

Doesn’t Herald Square have an AST per floor? That store is a different beast entirely. I can’t believe they get upwards of 3 trucks a day! I am curious to know how that store operates. They probably don’t do ISM.

This is because you don't work at Herald Square. The MBAs are not in charge of AYS, don't do some of the other duties that MBA's do in other stores, and AST just sits around a good part of the day in their office. I am PT and a little busier now, but mostly sit around not doing much most of the year. We are not even located near the store managers. And BTW, AST at HSQ is called Business Administration.

I feel for anyone in a leadership salary position with Macys, why even had a title anymore because you all literally do EVERYTHING and most of the time your own job title functions are the ones you neglect. I was a red badge for over 10 years...I walked away in the fall season and have not looked back, best decision I have ever made. I did not realize how toxic of a work environment it was until I was away from it. Do yourself a favor and get out while you can. There is something better for you I promise. I was nervous and scared but I had to do it for my own mental and physical well being. Over my tenure I read many posts like the one im typing now and never listened, wish I would have long ago.

This is directed to the person who said I am not director material. It’s just myself and my PT AST. The PT AST position is only allotted 20 hrs week. As we know the company has cut back hours so I’m literally working 10 hour days. This is not the expectation for the other People Leaders. I am literally one person

Our MBA is very talented and fantastic, and is capable of doing it all, but that doesn’t mean that person should have to. Nobody should be taken advantage of. AYS is crazy busy for us right now and that is where the focus should be for the MBA. Keeping that function going. We’re fortunate to have a strong AST staff, so emphasis can be put on operational tasks during this time of year. I get the “global mind” set, but everyone needs to own their roles. Period. The point is, people need to stop depending on others to fix the mess. We all have to own our roles. Roll up your sleeves and get to work. ISM has dramatically changed our culture and most stores still don’t get it. They need to figure it out fast because I promise, it is not going away. Let’s not assume that because things are falling apart that they’ll change their minds and go back to the old way. Sadly, those days are over. ISM is a money saver.

I was the same way. I promised myself that last Christmas would be my last. I was physically and mentally drained. I found a new job and love going to work. It did take a while to decompress from macy's. I'm enjoying the holidays with friends and family. Once you leave you'll question why you stayed so long.

Or you all can be global and stop thinking that you all are office staff. I would assume most of the MBAs that complain aren’t director material because you dont have a global mindset? I was a MBA - mastered it had sales experience and always thought about the good of the store.

Fellow MBA here and same situation. Feel like I’m doing everyone else’s job. I’m doing OOM, SMM, CXM, director duties. On top of AYS and AST. Fortunately my AYS captain is great and AST team is self sufficient.

Ours spends most time on floor... everything falls by the wayside. It's not by her choice.

I guess it depends on your store and how dire things are. Our MBA is not floor coverage. Her focus is typical office duties, onboarding, safety, and all things AYS. BOSS is crazy right now. And honestly, they shouldn’t be used as floor coverage. CXMs need to plan better to be able to manage the floor. Oh, and how about they empower their base colleagues so they stop getting extremely distracting teatro calls left and right that prevent them from doing important things. Just a thought…
