I am curious if people think it was better with VMWare under Dell? I assume the best time was EMC pre-merger as they just left VMware to do its thing.

Nicira, not Nicola.
EMC days were better. They enabled us to do a lot of acquisitions like Nicola which became NSX. However that being said strategically we missed on being a leader in public cloud. Dell would have never been able to buy us if we could have caught that wave before Amazon and Microsoft did
Mr. Dell milked the company dry. Nothing he did benefited the company
Michael Dell snowed everyone with a 'plan' that made some sense.
Then he didn't execute one bit of that plan.
Then he started extracting money, allowing the system to crumble.
He appeared to not care, as long as the piggy bank kept zhitting out money for him.
It was not better under Dell. It was not better under just EMC.
