Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

So long Europe

Talked to one of my buddies from the MCI days in Europe…everywhere else got hit badly with layoffs but nothing happened there. Must be a reason for that …

@gc EMEA and APAC are already operating with a skeleton crew. Just India is a behemoth.

@OP You and your buddy are both full of cr-p. Europe has absolutely had layoffs prior to what just happened in the US.

@az that could be, but my direct report in the UK was not notified at the beginning of the 3 months. I had to break the news to him after painful meetings with HR and legal to answer questions about his job duties after my management kicked off the process, and it was under NDA... He had a month’s notice when my boss and I told him. So I hope you’re right, since I still manage a few people in Europe, but I wouldn’t count on it. :(

@ex I'd agree. I get why they need it (to service big American companies with global needs) but stick at that with a skeleton crew, don't go after European companies when your brand is valueless in these countries.

International is just another example of a failed Verizon strategy. Leadership operates like a butterfly flitting between flowers and after a year or two it loses interest….look at AOL, Yahoo, Connect, Bluejeans,Senion

@b0 don’t think you have a clue to what is going on…you think the US leaders transferring work to Europe actually know the plans for the region? Of course they don’t…that work is gonna have to go back to the USA

@b0 everywhere is being reorganized, haven’t you asked yourself what makes Europe so special??

Europe is currently going through a reorganization which I believe will be completed by March/April.
We are exiting some countries and people have been notified it just takes a little longer as each country has its own employment laws to abide by
We have also been advised that we are picking up additional responsibilities due to the USA layoffs

A few years ago I had to notify one of my direct reports in the UK. It was a 3 month process through local HR and legal. From what I understand, other parts of Europe are even longer. They will get hit, but you won’t hear about it until February/March at the earliest.

@a6 if they are looking to sell to HCL I pity the employees…I predict a lot of early retirements and resignations if that happens. Everyone has witnessed the disgraceful treatment of the employees who already transferred over in the US and in Europe

@OP suss huh, wonder who will buy it as they've struggled in the past to find a buyer. I suspect they sm--k of desperation now and if it includes contractually being required to work with HCL they're going to be paying to offload it!
