Work life balance left the building the day I accepted this role. Meetings bleed into evenings and weekends, and by Monday I’m already exhausted. If anyone has tips on reclaiming time, I’m all ears.

@ts operating efficiency = doing more with fewer people. Always has.
I regrettably left my great WLB job for this bank in August and couldn’t have related to OP more. There is way too much bureaucracy at this firm. During my recruitment, I was assured that the team and bank as a whole is aiming for efficiency and simplicity=less bureaucracy. And months later, I am still having a hard time finding this “efficiency” that they’ve greatly marketed about. I’ve never wanted to leave a job so fast until I joined Citi. Simple tasks that could’ve been an email or a yes or no answer requires lengthy process to get through. HR/Benefits/Compliance folks have only made the onboarding process horrible with no directions to give.
To the OP, leave. It’ll take a bit to look for another job of that I am sure but start your search now.
Whether you go or whether you stay, I can 100% assure you of one thing.
Nothing will change at Citi. It’ll still be the same toxic place as it is now.

@jp when someone types LMAO and the doubles down on it by typing LMFAO I know I’m dealing with a mo--n
I LMFAO whenever employees divulge personal info about themselves to co-workers and/or their managers (how many children you have, type of car you have, where you vacation, college expenses, medical expenses etc.).
Your co-workers, employer and managers are NOT your friends or relatives. In fact, they're your competitors and enemies which are Not necessarily the same thing.
Co-workers will throw each other under the bus and backstab each other to protect their jobs or jobs the former may want in the future !
Also, Career Coach Ryan Yockey's Brutal Career Truth #2: 2️⃣ Loyalty Won’t Pay the Bills → Companies are loyal to profits, not people. Look out for yourself first.
No matter how good of a worker you are, companies will Fire/Lay you off to save a nickel or if you are Not a favored son/daughter at the moment. Employees are expendable, fungible widgets !
You can Not Fire/Layoff your relatives ! At then end of the day, you're still related to them, like it or not. The "We're a Family" BullSh!t comes from companies that are soooo Fvcked Up and dysfunctional.
Companies want their employees to have debt and expenses (mortgage/house, college tuition, children, medical expenses, vacations, designer clothes, etc.) because it makes employees dependent on their employers and employment !
I Never talk about my personal life. Do NOT ever discuss to anyone in the workplace about the new roof, boiler or whatever you need to replace in your house, how many children you have, etc..

Just don't do it. Set boundaries. I've been here 6yrs and promoted twice even though I never work early or late and never ever work weekends.
I have also never installed the apps on my phone.
I hate this place. It’s by far the cheapest company I’ve ever worked for and the most toxic.
@a9 Exactly!
Funny-folks IM me at all times and I have told them a zillion times-not loading Teams on my PERSONAL PAID for mobile..
Most banks provide mobiles for their employees!
Citi thrives off of desperate people. All the more so, so that they can give you the old “do this and that” or else. The more desperate you are for the pay, insurance and benefits, the more you’ll be abused.
Work towards being debt free. While this takes a while, it’ll work out to your benefit in the long run and give you the power to say “go f@ck yourself” to anyone anytime you want.
That aside, I’d say to look for another job at another company.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that things will get better with time, they won’t.
Pro tip, Don’t download teams to your phone and if you have delete it. Dont log on on weekends or after 6 except in extreme circumstances.
Also don’t volunteer for work. To achieve optimal work/life balance be seen as competent but not a SME.
