Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Chinese Solid State Batteries are in production - 800 miles range. WOW.

China’s battery industry has moved solid-state cells from lab slides to factory floors, promising electric cars that can travel roughly twice as far on a charge as today’s mainstream models. Instead of incremental gains, Chinese manufacturers are now talking about 800‑mile ranges, higher energy density, and safer chemistries that could reset expectations for what an everyday EV can do. The shift is still in its early stages, but the first production lines are already signaling that the global race for next‑generation batteries has entered a new phase.

Funny thing is even if this magical battery with environmentally wonderful stuff comes to be, 800 miles of energy (range) needs to charge the dead battery. Energy has to come from somewhere - I know that's an unpopular idea, but it does. Then there's the crazy thought that that much energy is quite an accident waiting to happen. Imagine the arc flash and ensuing heat liberated if that thing shorts out. Oh yeah all thats been figured out - even though it's not here yet - if ever. Go build yourself a couple of hundred new power plants just like the Chinese did before you get too giddy. Those aren't free either - but wait - aren't solar panels, unicorns and wind mills free? Sorry the are not and they all have a finite life. Gee, no free rides just scams to keep the dollars moving around while the easy BTUs get converted into heat.

@OP

Well just like thier massive bridge that recently collapsed. They built that thing in record time. It was amazing...until it wasn't. Cut corners and you end up FAFO'ing. But I guess its pretty easy when you give zero F's in the 1st place. Not speaking from a Ford perspective either. We all know when it comes to quality Ford can just take a seat.

@gq I just took a sh-t, based on the foul odor, clay like texture, and considerable size, this is true.

I know, I know - with the power that has yet to be made with the as yet unfunded coal powered plant in your neighborhood. AND rate payers are gonna love it!

Ford is out of competition. It is not only 800 miles, its also 1200 horse power. RIP Ford.

@a4 New tech batteries for vehicles that nobody wants. Do they come with subscriptions that nobody wants either?

Still need to be cartridges so they can be changed quickly.

People aren’t going to want to sit around for hours while their car battery charges. They only works if you can work charging time into your schedule.

And where is all the electrical power to put into these batteries going to come from?

Are electric vehicles going to compete with AI datacenters?

China burns coal for their electricity.

@a2 those MBAs often have greater entelechy that allows them to push beyond that fourth Great Wall of China. I could never.

They must’ve poached Ross MBAs and paid them significantly high salaries to accomplish this great feat. No in between. Or other explanation

Ford BOSK batteries are outdated. The $5 billion investment in BOSK are down the toilet.
