Come see me on Monday morning, Brian
I am from HR, so what, I am upset more than anyone else. This place su k s
Yep, I know for sure HR reads this.
I feel like Dell upper management/leadership absolutely knows about this site and does come and read posts on occasion. I doubt many managers know about this site, though. Dell is a cr-ppy company but they aren't stupid either. I guarentee HR scours this site, along with a handful of execs from time to time...
@bv Here's my thing with layoffs... Companies can fire/layoff at will with absolutely no notice whatsoever. Many people are absolutely blind sided by their layoff many times. However, when someone finds a new job or plans on quitting, companies/Dell expects a 2 week notice?
Personally I think that if a company KNOWS they plan to layoff someone, they should tell them a month beforehand; then strip their admin rights and rights to anything of value so they can't go in and destroy or wreck havoc on anything. Not only does that give the person time to start looking/interviewing for a new job but it also gives the company ample time to find a replacement.
I mean, the ONLY reason anybody gives a two week notice is so they can use that company as a reference in the future. Which is ironic because the last time I was "fired" was at Dell. I was on a PIP and manager told me after 3 months there was no way I'd pass it. He gave me the option to quit that day and he'd pay me out for 2 more checks, or try to pass the PIP. I quit that day and took my money.
@d4 That's cool but like, WHY TF would you be trying to come here on your companies network lol? Use your own computer on your own network...
@bv I was so close to telling my manager about this site one time because I had told him that I heard there were going to be layoffs and if we'd be affected. At the time it was just "rumored" on here but they did end up happening. He said "not that I'm aware of but layoffs rarely affect fed; especially our department."
He asked me how I knew or something like that and I just said "my friend in sales mentioned something about it." Shortly after that convo there were indeed layoffs.
Almost told my coworker the other day about this site as well because he asked if my friend in sales knew of any WFR going on.. That friend was WFR'd 2 years ago so no, he didn't lol.. I decided not to tell coworker because we are in a small group and I enjoy coming on here so don't want him to see my comments/posts lol.
@bv I'm assuming you are a sr. manager at the least? Maybe even a director+? Or you could just be bullshooting lol but I'll assume the former.
I don't know exactly how layoffs work but my dad was a manager at Motorolla for 10 years and he told me he had like a "checklist" type thing. So performance, likeability, dependable, ontime, team player, etc etc etc... that he'd have to do for his directs IF there were layoffs and that's kinda how it was determined to some extent or another.
I'm assuming it's somewhat similar these days as well but, I feel like at dell they tend to go for those who make the higher salaries and have been there for longer, moreso than lower earners... in general.
One of our execs told us that layoffs are about saving money. If dell can save money by getting rid of a service/application/etc... then they will do that "first" but if they can't then, it's people they get rid of unfortunately. Problem is that there is rarely something they can get rid of to save money in place of cutting people.
So, to me it seems more beneficial and a "bigger bang for the buck" to get rid of a handful of i10s+ versus 20 i6's making 80-100k?
yes, they know, in AT&T they intentionally block this domain
they probably didn't like the spilling of the 'maverick' beans
When I got laid off, I knew the exact date weeks ahead of time and flat out and told my boss.
He was like “yeah that site causes a lot of problems for us”
Boo boo!
@bv We do realize that this is hard for our managers. I don't blame my manager, it's the establishment above him that is questionable. I won't get into H1b here, but it does pi-s us off that we lose our job in our country while others from other countries seem to survive. We can see nepotism or favoritism in the hiring/laying off process.
Yes, we’re aware. Also, we are human, we do feel guilty just as much as we feel unable to affect any real change to the decisions being made above our pay grade. All we can try to do is the least amount of harm we can with the parameters we have to abide by. Sometimes, that means letting real talent go because we know they’ll get severance and likely get hired on somewhere else with at least a base line livable wage, versus reducing someone else that doesn’t have that kind of cushion. Do we always get it right? Nope, we don’t. Some of us do try though. So when we read these posts we realize there’s really no way to ruin someone’s happiness in an “optimized” way. It feels offensive to apologize for something I know I have to keep doing as part of my job, so I’ll spare you my attempt at easing my guilt. I just wanted you to know we do see your posts, and we are hoping you find a place that values your excellence.
Yes, a team member told me about this site. People are watching it for sure. Paranoid all around!!!
