Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Aftermath is even worse than all that anticipation

I survived, but I’m completely fizzled out, and I don’t care about the work or whatever comes next. Watching so many people get cut, many of them after years of hard, dedicated work, doesn’t motivate me at all. If anything, it just made painfully obvious what we all knew - being invested gets you absolutely nothing in return.

I’m sorry for the people who were let go, mainly because options are limited and life keeps getting harder by the day. Not because this job mattered, or should have mattered, in the first place. It all feels pointless.

Work to live, dont EVER live to work. Do your time so you can enjoy your life, on nights, weekends, holidays, and PTO. Nobody ever said on their deathbed, "I wish I had reviewed one more call" lol. Nothing wrong with trying to get ahead, but work life balance is so important also. At the end of the day, we gotta spend our time worrying about what we can control, so much of this stuff is outside of our control it seems.

@by No kidding. Only a fool would've thought they meant "from Verizon."

Here's something I came across earlier posted on the site that I found helpful.

Wish you well with your search!

@by There are unofficial referrals, but only if you apply to another Vz job. Managers talk and that can make, or will break, your chances of getting a new posting. @ae is still a dork though

@ae Referrals? Verizon doesn't give referrals. Ask someone that wasn't impacted. You may get a BS LinkedIn post how the person was a great coworker, but you're not allowed to provide official referrals to other companies. VZ will only do an employment verification confirming last title and dates of employment. That is all you get from big red.

It's been going on for years - nothing ever changes. Prepare to get out on your own terms.

@a4 THAT will get you NO where. Do you NOT want referrals???? Our daughter was in the layoff. SHE is putting her nose to the grindstone since they are STILL paying her and as she told me that she told the people running a meeting today:" I have INTEGRITY"!!!!!!!!!.

Grow up and get back to work. The more you hang about like a recently dumped girlfriend the more likely you’ll be next……

Exactly. The 4 weeks leading up to the layoffs no one was motivated and work came to a hault. No one wanted to work until they knew they were safe. But now seeing the how cruel this company is cutting people who have been here for years giving their life for this company there is even less motivation. The company always tried encouraging us to have vz pride. I never bought into that bc I can see through this corporate bull- we are just a number and they do not give a cr-p about us. Don’t participate in the extracurriculars, don’t volunteer, don’t skip a lunch break, use all your sick and pto every year, don’t stress about answering every email, literally give as many fu--s as this company gives about us.
