Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Most unique Shell provided benefit you have come across?

I noticed in Pakistan - employees could book a shell run vacation house.

India has that extra % pay per year to keep up with market pay rates

Dutch get the benefit of riding a bicycle to work

Oman provides benefits to multiple spouses of an employee. You can also buy health insurance for your parents.

Before 2006 the alcohol policy was "employees are not allowed to drink alcohol at lunch or company events unless it is their normal practice or custom to do so" Yep, think about that. In some of the Shell cafeterias they served beer and wine.

I miss how people hired before 2006 were given health insurance payment for the rest of your life if you made it to retirement.

@OP The entertainment benefit of listening to EEs complain about vacation purchase when it was taken away like that is a normal benefit in the industry.

@bm ya I was assuming downstream. Ya Upstream is on a higher job scale. JG2 in downstream would be mostly equivalent to the JG3 in upstream.

@bg
Figure a JG3 in upstream gets about 250-260 salary and 40-60k bonus It used to be 80% of people would get the retention bonus of 400 shares... not so much any more. So, 300k... those are JG3 numbers in the US upstream.

A JG2 slightly above the 100% PIR would get a salary of about 300k, bonus of 60-90K about 800 shares retention bonus on great years that is close to 1100 shares with good BPFs. When the BPF is 1.5 that gets close to 450-480K with the vested stock for a JG2.

In Europe and the U.S., HR will facilitate an involuntary, permanent sabbatical in support of organisational harmonisation and long-term efficiency, providing colleagues with a structured period to pursue personal development, broaden their competencies, and explore new professional pathways beyond Shell.

@bc my guess would be above 100%PIR for a JG2

Instead of flying to a Shell vacation house, U.S. employees get the thrilling experience of watching their job travel to another country. It’s like a relocation program… but the role relocates, not you.

I guess American folks get a 10% free chunk of change into their retirement accounts if you can survive to 9 years. For me that’s over 30,000$ “free” but then I may get laid off any year

The Rijswijk cafeteria was nothing to sneeze at in its day.
