The 5-day RTO requirements are what will matter

If it’s true that a full RTO mandate is coming in January, that’s what will really hit us. They’ll 100% set the requirements so they’re impossible, or near impossible, for a lot of people to meet, fully aware that everyone will bend over backwards to comply given the job market. RTO will just become another way to push people out without calling it cuts.

I went in the office only 3 times a week even before the covid 19 when i was a part of VBG. I wouldn’t think we will go back to 5/week ever…

not sure how this can be scaled out for all locations- realestate cost is something they also consider and there are several locations in CA where weve downsized office space- irvine, walnut creek, folsom, SF, SJ closed etc. and if overall cost is an issue then I cant see them expanding out and having more buildings again. I know the 3 day in office for consumer channel has been a big push since last year but 5 days seems like a stretch tbh but in some groups it may make sense. My conversation with groups up top above Sr. Director levels have mentioned that being office is the "standard" but does not mean it would be all groups but when collaboration and f2f makes sense-- but who knows. Paypal still has a hybrid model and when I did an analysis for HR in regards to hiring and attrition 2 years ago-- at least when it comes to entry level positions-- gig work is the new norm and job flexibility is a priority for younger employees. So if verizon wnats to attract talent-- it would be hard to mandate that across the board if other companies still offer flexibility -- but I do think that home based models are a thing of the past because the people impacted on my team were home based and another person I know that shouldn't have been impacted it was the same thing- he is in a rural town with no corporate locations nearby. My peers on my team that were in office or the ability to go in were not impacted and although our skillset is much different (we develop and code) compared to our peers that were I think anyone that doesn't have a technical skill + business acumen and insights are at risk regardless of RTO 5 days being a requirement-- the immediate concern is more so can you peer do your job so I would start with there and worry about that versus the in office requirement

What is interesting is the same tools that I use when WFH will be the same tools I use RTO so nothing changes. They just want to see my smiling face? Thats sus.

Hells Bells why do some of you have such a hard on for RTO to constantly shill for it? Please tell us you aren’t stupid enough to think that it is the silver bullet for making Verizon great again or that somehow being in an office means your work can’t be outsourced or offshored and you are safe from being let go.

And now here comes the “Hurr durrrr Bob is playing golf and Jan is running errands on the company dime”, then mumbles something unintelligible about productivity. This may be a shocking take, but I BET that Bob and Jan would su-k at their jobs just as bad if they were in the office.

That said, if it is mandated then we have to comply or walk. But to these RTO clowns, why the he-l do you care? Are you that hard up for people to listen to your bullsh-t in person? Being forced to interact with you jack wagons is another reason why we’d rather stay home and undoubtedly accomplish more than you sad little lonely social butterflies.

It's an adjustment no doubt. I remember being in the office everyday without fail for decades and not thinking twice about it.

Unfortunately, a lot of people take advantage when they're not physically at work. I had a guy working for me this past year who was offline after 2pm everyday like clockwork. He then would later on come back online at very odd hours (i.e., 1am, 2am, etc.) and quickly go thru his emails and blast out half thoughtout responses. No matter how I coached him (including eventually written warnings) I couldn't break him of his bad conduct. Eventually he contrived an excuse to go on Short Term Disability. Needless to say he's on his way out the door.

Home base was always and will always be home base. Hybrid was the byproduct of covid in most cases. What happens with hybrid, happens. Why would anyone think it would never be 5 days again.
