Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Sampath as root cause?

I'll start by saying I have always been fond of Sampath - super smart, great communicator, really understands the business and the industry, and by all accounts a genuinely nice and kind and thoughtful person.

But that said, I also think that he set many things in motion that led Verizon to this position. Both on the business side and then on the consumer side, he set up large, broad leadership org structures, with lots and lots of SVPs. And then I think that in turn led those teams to create broad teams. And once that org bloat starts, it's hard to undo it. I wonder in hindsight if creating these large SVP teams was a mistake.

Just one person's theory.

I wouldn't be surprised if John Stratton eventually becomes Verizon CEO after Dan does the dirty work of downsizing.

@c2 holiday season approaching, still need someone to steer the money- maker ship. Wouldn’t be surprising to see Sampath announce early retirement mid next year and be replaced by the “true” successor of Dan’s. And it’s obvious Sampath will not be CEO unless the board changes.

they recently gave him and skidas a $4m retention bonus incentive, so the board obviously still doesn't know cr-p, except how to destroy a company and its employees

Check out Sampaths LinkedIn work experience. Many 1year stunts in executive leadership positions, leaving the previous organization worse off. What does that say about his true competency?

OP- it’s a sound theory. I’m too new, so I don’t have a background of Sampath, but what I have noticed is there are a ton of Sr. Directors at VZ, way more compared to the last company I worked for.

Nobody named “Sampath” is leading an American company to prosperity

Scampath is not next up. If he was he would have gotten the keys but instead it’s the lead board director who stepped in. It will either be John Stratton next or an outside candidate.

I just think we have a lot of leaders who don't know what they are doing, specifically Monica Hammond and the recently departing Frank Boulben. Sam Hammock doesn't seem to have a clue either. I'm willing to give Dan the chance to turn things around but he was on the board for 7 years while Hans tore the company down, so who knows?

Guy is an accountant who spent most of his career in consulting before joining VZ. What are his accomplishments outside of VZ? He's been here 10 years, nothing but failures under his leadership.

I think Sampath is all talk and no results. I am sure he also help throw Hans under the bus which tbh I don’t mind but that is Sampath for you
