Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The Real Problem

You know what I think the real problem is? The amount of leaders who are career managers. By this I mean they’ve never been a tech, engineer, cs rep, sales rep etc. they lead teams not understanding what they do, not understanding the product or what happens on the front lines.

That’s all. Just a thought I wanted to share.

This is what malcontents and underperformers always say. Never met a manager here who hadn't paid his dues in the trenches (Verizon's or somewhere else).

Too many band 6 and 5s in meetings talking about things that need to be fixed but there’s one band 7 and random GTA dude from India doing all the fixing

I got to say, you're just wrong. I worked at Verizon for many years and I don't think I ever met a "career manager". Every single person I know there came up through the ranks, whether that's tech or engineering or accounting. Maybe the new CEO since he's not from our industry but I don't know any others. Examples?

Correct. Many dei promotions, nepotism hires and “look how many degrees i have” people. All that is mix of madness and not leadership but people on charge managing to spreadsheets and not the “business” itself.

That’s corporate America today. Executives think they should jump ship every 3 years to get raises. They really know nothing of what they manage…
