I’ve heard people are being told to take the rest of the day today if they’re given notice, but what about Friday? I can’t imagine coming in tomorrow and pretending everything is BAU after getting laid off today.

@a2 this is not true for everyone. It depends on your role and if you need to do any transitioning. Your severance may depend on it, so don't make a blanket statement like this.
When i got cut, all my access was removed soon as I was notified. Good luck to those that got RIFd.

@OP I was RIFFED (VBGCO) just now. Band 6, 15 years of service. I was told to feel free to take rest of week off. Gone on 12/20. I am just numb.
Package is 2weeks pay for each year worked, Vz paid Cobra for that time duration, STI for 2025 minus the last two weeks in Dec. etc. They give you a portal to go to for your personalized package and severance details. Haven't gotten that far.
Deciding whether to start drinking at 9:30am EST.
I was RIF'd and idk if they were going to give me the option or not but I told my manager that I'll be back online after thanksgiving and then shut down my laptop and phone. If they need me they can find my personal number and try to get me to come in lol

Block your calendar for the entire weekday, leaving one hour open for reasonable people to ask you questions. Stick to 11 AM your local time. You will have access to email and calendar but other access will likely be withdrawn soon.
If affected do not work or check email or have anything to do with VZ till Dec 1st, that too only for that one hour and IF someone sets up a calendar invite first. Sorry if you are going through the nonsense. Good luck.

For an involuntary RIF, once you are notified you drop everything at that moment. You're only job is to find another position and take care of self.
