That is what has been happening every single time. Great people with plenty of experience and institutional knowledge get kicked out. I never understood how that can be considered a good business strategy. I know they want to cut costs, but when you get rid of one person who then has to be replaced by two or three people to do the same job, how is that cheaper?

@a2 Kissing up to the manager is important to longevity. Experience and knowledge are important to some managers but toxic managers prefer to be worshiped.

It's cheaper for the quarter.
We've already gotten rid of the bottom performers. I took a list of everyone and talked them and even the person at the bottom is worth keeping this time around and no it's not me lol
layoff is not about performance. It's about who management prefers to work with. It's also the same to the promotion. it's not about performance. it's about how you package the work you do....
it's sad but that's the truth of any company.
