Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How long does it actually take for severance to show up?

Does it hit with the next pay period or does it usually come later?

My last day was December 19th 2025. I just checked the severance portal and I can see the pay stub for this friday January 2nd 2026 paycheck showing the unpaid vacation time being compensated. Looking forward to see the severance pay after 2 weeks in the following pay period. I am so pleased that all the pay will hit my account in the new year 2026 as I have been in Verizon for 13 years as a network engineer and my total payout will be more than $100K including my 7 weeks unpaid vacation days

@4p5 they actually have 45 days to pay out severance, but typically do so within 30 days. The thing that takes the longest will be the RSUs. That can take up to 60 days and you won't get a notice. You just have to keep checking your Fidelity account. STI will be paid when it normally would in Feb.

Your vacation pay will hit with your last payroll check, which in this last round of layoffs will be Jan 2nd. Verizon has 30 days from our official layoff date of today, Dec 19 to payout our severance, which will most likely be regular pay cycle payday on Jan 16 2026.

It comes after your warn notice is up and the. Hits on the next two payroll cycles. When I was let go in 2023. The severance was split between two payroll cycles.

@a7 oh that's interesting, you get STI and stock payouts when remaining employees do ? I was thinking they rolled it all up and paid at the same time.

Typically, your "Off Payroll" date is set, probably Dec 19, 2025. Since that is a bau paydate, you will receive a normal paycheck. Before the end of the year, you will get your vacation payout via an off-cycle check. Assuming you signed all of your paperwork, you will get your severance pay mid-January, and everything else (like STI) at the normal timeframe. If you have questions, talk to your HRBP or send a note to HR Answers. I found them very helpful.
Good luck!

for sure you want to try to push out signing it so that you get paid in 2026, especially if you are expecting a significant number

This is important. You want the severance to hit your account in January, so your 2025 income will spike, and push you into a higher tax bracket.

You will need to complete the paperwork first. Once you agree to the Ts and Cs, and you are off payroll, the process starts. I was severanced last year. It took about 3 weeks for the severance payout to hit my account.
