Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

They don't care

It is crystal clear that those at the top do not care about us in the least, but only about profit and stockholders. I don't think it's really sustainable, because if the remaining good workers leave and it's not easy to replace them, how will they continue to make a profit and satisfy the stockholders?
Obviously, the leadership refuses to realize that most quality workers, who actually know how to do the job, will start looking for new opportunities unless something changes here.

Uprr is a corporation setup to make $ for the stock holders. So , yes indeed they don’t care about the employees. If it was a coop business, and everyone had some ownership, they be more likely to care about people .

Go watch the CEO get grilled by the head of the STB at a hearing today. Any bets on the amount of changes that happen very quickly after the hearings?

Your post is correct that the company doesn’t care about its workers, including its management team. The only thing the executive team, board of directors, and investors care about is profits. The truth is they don’t care if you or I leave. The same message has been posted for the past four years about this being unsustainable and the company would somehow come to its senses. The truth is we are still here. I am too close to retirement to leave and others stay for whatever reasons they have. Employees leaving will not change anything as they hire more to replace those that left. In our opinions the new employees may not be as good as those that leave, but that doesn’t seem to matter. The truth is we have lost many experienced employees in the past few years and the company continues to make record profits. The only thing that would have an effect on the decision makers is if everyone stayed at home and nothing could move for a few days. Not a strike as this would be illegal, but possibly a sickout to highlight the issues. This would get everyone’s attention nationwide, including the politicians who have the power to enact legislation to correct some of the issues including paid sick leave. In my opinion this is wishfully thinking as I don’t believe the employees would stand together to make this happen, but I can wish.
